Hello dudes, I'm new here, but as I searched the forum nobody asked of this. I'm looking for a way to make a mod of battery charge disabling using the fn+f2 hotkey.

So i'm asking of any information on how to disable basic feature when command center loads and how to rewrite data to new function. I think there is a way to connect to bios key and direct it with display driver. Maybe I'm wrong :) Any ideas?

Download dells battery meter. Put it in your start up folder. Then when you hit fn-f2 it will pop up a window that allows you to dissable the battery.

from what i understand, it helps keep the battery life at its best, due to being able to disable it when its fully charged.(if have it connected to power there is no need for the battery anyway) Otherwise continously charging and recharging the battery takes its toll after a long time.

i dont think so, i have been using my m14x for weeks now with the charger on and i got no wear level..

I have set charging off in the bios once, after that the battery depleted while i was playing even though i was plugged in.. i think this will harm the battery more than just leaving the charging on

Thats just weeks, your battery will be shot at the 13 month mark of ownership.... It also wont show up very fast, usually it will be fine, then BAM! its time to replace your battery.

yes maybe, but what difference does it make to turn it off? it will discharge during usage and will reach like 0 percent?

How does that help it? If you know a bit about laptop batteries you know that it isnt healthy to discharge a battery totally..

Your battery only has so many charge cycles, then its done. If you leave it plugged in the computer lets it drain a little, then charges it back up. By turning the battery off, the battery just drains a little each week, but it doesnt recharge each time eating a cycle.

ejohnson, yes true it only has a certain number of charge cycles but the thermal heating/cooling of the battery within the laptop wont do it any good either. As the battery is replaceable why not leave it on as it will not overcharge and in case of power cuts etc wont lose your work.

The battery is still in there, if you unplug the computer it switches over to battery by it self. All this does is stop the computer from charging the battery. Its pretty nice this way. The other alienware systems have batterys that are easy to remove without taking off the bottom panel, the m11x and m14x share the same battery.

    Drivers and Downloads

Put the program in your start up folder, then the fn+battery icon will turn off the battery.

It still launches alienfusion and i didn't notice any difference in battery charging\or not using this meter. maybe it's not workong for me?

upd. the only thing changed - it disables the animation of battery notification in windows, but when you move cursor on it - it shows the same thing - that battery is charging and adapter is plugged.
