What do you mean "one layer on the front light"? Or did you mean the light brightness? If so then you can find it by right click on the alien-head in the notification and select "Dim Lighting Zone" or "Dim Lighting Zone in Battery Mode Only"

Doesn't it only have one color coming out of it anyway for the m15x and m17x?

Why not just stick a piece of plastic in between? Presto.

Another reason would be the laptop's thickness ;)

But why do you care about the front light thing, I mean because of that thing didnt actually do anything (except for the AlienFX & Music Virtualization Music-FX), so why care about it? I think like Katalin said, maybe of the thickness, because if Dell put that light split plastic on it, it going to look ugly to me and worse would block the light nearly entirely or it is just a design for the two laptop series (M11x/M14x) to have same feature while the M17x and M18x have its same feature. (in my imagination).

+1 it doesn't really do anything and is purely a cosmetic Piece of plastic. I do admit I like the look of it though, makes the laptop look more fearsome. :D

I will say though that the m14x's lighting could have been better done. The colour is rather faded near the middle, especially the space bar. A dedicated light in the middle would have been nice.

I actually think that a grill split in the middle could have been done on the m14x. If they kept the same design as the m15x I mean. It would just be a cool little compact Alienware. I think it wouldve been better than now, this design doesnt pop out as much as the M17x r2 I saw once

I think the grill split would've made it look more menacing. I was kinda disappointed once I realized it was left out.

Also the ability to make the touchpad, activity lights, and power button change colours automatically would've been good too.

Not sure what you mean but this is how M14x lighting zone look like in the command centre.

What Fred2028 is talking about, it doesnt mean it is just one combo light, you can change it in the command centre, however I think what he saying is that you cannot get it to morph between colour like those on the AW Logo, Keyboard and the grill thing, it is just static light.
