I'm just gonna go on a quick rant here with Dell and Australia.
Fact - The Australian Dollar is now stronger than the American Dollar. (1AUD = 1.074USD)
Yet the 'starting' price for a M14x in Australia is $2,199, and if you do a same config, the Australian prices are still a couple 100 dollars higher. You'd have thought the prices would be getting closer, and while they are lower than they used to be, we still get the crap end of the stick.
I mean come on Dell, I don't enjoy ordering every laptop from the USA...
Either way.. quick rant over. Audience participation is now open.
-
Couple hundreds. My area cost 35% more than that of the same spec in us. So . Its either fly over to us or buy other lappy.
-
Contact HIDevolution. They do sell the m14x r1. They also ship to aus.
-
Hi. I live in Spain.
Do you know if HIdevolutuon ship to Spain? It would be great, because for Alienware 1$=1€. -
Same, I'm utterly pissed off with the way laptops are sold in Australia.
There just so ridiculously overpriced, its not fair to anyone. How does it make sense, where a laptop from American when our dollar is stronger, is roughly 300 - 500$ cheaper than our counterpart.
If you ask Dell, they tell you "with the price that your paying, your getting more power" Its true, (750GB HDD, and 6GB RAM come to mind) but there so horribly overpriced we don't want it.
I just want to buy a m14x base with 2730, and call it a day. Upgrade everything on my own because its a hell of alot cheaper.
/rant off -
They ship all over the world.
-
Considering they all come from Malaysia and then shipped around the world, its all a bit weird price wise to be honest. The worst thing is Australians cannot stack coupons. That's a total disadvantage. If you're lucky enough you can get 10% off, but even that kind of coupon is pretty rare.
But remember Dell is American and it's only fair Americans get the most perks. Would be good to have a little more love elsewhere though. -
Do you know if this web is secure? I mean for payings... -
-
For warranty purposes I guess the computer goes back to Dell. To achieve that do you pay for your warranty to be transferred to Australia? Is that possible?
-
Warrenty will tranfers to your name. So if something breaks, tech will come to your house and fix it.
That is only the case if they offer that service in your country. -
Yeah, you just fill out a country transfer form. It's also free.
-
Really? Geez, I'm really starting to consider this now. Does dell have issues with custom parts in the machine in the event it stops working? I was planning on adding a blu-ray drive through these guys, but didn't know if that would void the warranty before it even begins.
-
AFAIK, you can add what you like, but that part won't be covered by warrenty.
E.G. You replace the optical drive with a blu-ray drive. Your graphics card fails, Dell will still replace the motherboard for you. Obviously though, if your blu-ray drive fails, they won't replace that. -
Unfortunately, there's a lot of various reasons for the costs, and it's not always Dell's fault. Good example is Steam, where EU games get hit by the VAT, which is slapped on top of what they already charge, making games cost far, far, more than they should. -
Fill out the international warranty transfer. Search for it form, I'm pretty sure it'll be easy to find. I know of a number of people who bought m11x r2's from the US off ebay, had them shipped to Australia, then transferred the warranty over.
-
Yea I've bought 2 from USA before, they're cheaper, and the warranty is transferable.
-
You could possibly try and get a better deal by phoning in and ordering, there are various threads around here for negotiating with the reps to get discounts. How well it will work is pot luck; depends entirely on what rep you get.
-
Yea you're not really gonna get much from reps in Australia because there are no 'Aussie' Dell reps.. so you can't ever get morethan 10%, and that you can get if you're lucky.
It's a sad state of affairs here. -
I will also vouch for HIDevolution. A friend from Finland bought an AW from them and even had it serviced 4 months later in Finland! Great company to have
-
After compromising on a number of features, I can't seem to get the price down to be much cheaper than the Australia model which in comparison is fully decked out (less WirelessHD since its not an option). Considering shipping is $250 via fedex, and then add gst (10%), you're not that better off.
-
Keep in mind that as per a Google search, only 2%+ of packages are checked that are sent by USPS, therefore giving you a 98% chance of avoiding charges. I'm not sure if they target bigger boxes, but that's something to keep in mind (at least this is what happens in Canada).
UPS is also cheaper than FedEx if I'm not mistaken.
UPS/FedEX/Purolator claim 100% of their items when shipping. -
No I tried it as well, it seems FedEx is our only option in Australia.. and for me I tried the M14x config and total shipping (with taxes I presume) was $510... which frankly makes sense since Australia charged 10% GST on all products imported over $1000...
Cheapest option is to have someone bring it with them obviously.. if not, it's not cheap. -
Agreed. Those charges alone blow it out substantially. Probably the only reason to import would be if you wanted a bare bones system. Then it's a bargain.
I'm still considering it solely because I want WirelessHD. Cuts me deep in can't get it in Australia. -
I bought my R1 using Price USA | Shop where you want
Came out about 300 cheaper and this was back when aud was around .90c -
Dell and Australia = Fail
