    Hi all,

Okay, I have had my M14x for a few weeks. Prior to this I've had a number of laptops from which I've used Linux as my OS. With Linux I didn't have to use any defrag program.

I've downoaded and ran defraggler and it has calculated that I have 36GB of fragmented files. This is quite hefty (from a non-techy perspective) considering I've only had the laptop for 3 weeks.

I'm going to defrag my hard drive later using Defraggler. However, as I am newly back to a Windows OS I'm after peoples opinions on what they consider the best program to use to defrag the HDD and whether there are ways to automatically set up defrag to run, say on a weekly basis. Ideally, I'm after a program that is free. I'm aware that Win7 has an in-built defragmenter - is this a good option and can it be automated as described?

    Many thanks.

I use the Defraggler, because it has more option than the standard built-in Defrag program, but still keep it simple. Although I'm not good at finding good program, I just use those I find it good and simple to use on Google. But I do tried others like the build-in Defrag like those found in IOBit Advance System Care and some other PC tuning program, but I found out that Defraggler is the best so far (For now).

Thanks for the reply. I have ran defraggler and there are a number of files (about 15gig) that it cannot degrag. Is this a common problem with all defrag programs or is it because defraggler isn't that great?

Those files are usually the Windows error files or the hibernating file, those cannot be defrag for some reason. But you can delete them using the Disk clean up in the My Computer, and sometime you will see that after u defrag the drive, it still show you there're leftover, if there're left over, for me I usually re-defrag again and it usually will be gone on the second defrag unless it is a Windows error reporting file or the hibernating file, for the hibernating file you can delete it by disable the hibernation in the Power setting.

Personally, I've grown to like Puran Defrag. It includes some amount of optimization (optional) that seems to give me pretty good results and it's especially fast. I've also used Smart Defrag, which has pretty good automated scheduling though I never used it.

15gb of data that can't be moved sounds like a combination of the pagefile and the hibernate file.

the best out there should be O&O Defrag (12?). very professional, they make enterprise and server versions too.

using it for years and does a very good job, gives you lotta control.
