Hey guys, I've been having this issue with my Alienware m14x laptop, when it gives me an "Unidentified Network" message while connected to my home Wi-Fi network and I have no internet access, IP conflict I guess. I tried all kinds of "solutions" I found online and nothing worked. Sometimes I can get it to connect by messing around with network settings and DHCP Reservations but after next restart it connects but no internet access again, the same "unidentified network" message.

Upsetting thing is this is my second Alienware laptop, I had an m11x before this one and it had the same exact issue. I never had this problem with anything else and right now using several other devices on the same network with no issues. I have 2 desktop PCs, iPad, 2 iPods, Samsung Andriod smartphone, XBOX360 and PS3 all connected at the same time, no problem. The only device that won't connect is the Alienware m14x (m11x before it).

I bought a new router, Linksys "something" (sorry don't know the exact model right now) and it connected at first, I'm happy, next reboot - "unidentified network" (had a Netgear router before). An other thing I'm doing right now is I'm using a Netgear USB Wi-Fi adapter with my Alienware which is ugly as hell but works fine. So I'm too confused. I have this problem at other places too, not just at home, but not everywhere though, for example it doesn't work at home at my friend's house, but works fine at work and and parents' place.

So, the only thing I haven't done yet is actually calling Dell, but I'm afraid they gonna blame it on everything possible from my home network set up and router all the way to user and ID10T error. Should I call them? Is there anything you guys can suggest for me to try? Is it a common issue with DELL's stuff (friend's DELL laptop does it too and 2 of my Alienware laptops)? Do I need a new driver (DELL's site lists mine as the latest)? Or is it just me? What the heck is going on? ;)

I have this problem occasionally after resetting my internet router; I usually just run wireless network troubleshooting and it automatically fixes it for me. :/

That doesn't work for me. I think it has to be software related, but then Dell/Alienware laptops are the only ones I ever see this problem with. I can't believe that it's not a common issue (2 for 2 Alienwares for me and an other Dell, so far 100% of Dell's I ever used had this problem). Searching web, no solutions. I really don't feel like restoring OS, and I had this issue right out of the box.

So I updated wireless drivers to the latest version (Intel 6205) and it worked for couple of days and now stopped again. I really don't know what else to do, I'm ready to blame my wireless network set up but how is it possible Alienware is the only machine that has those kinds of problems? Someone please advice.

seems strange that 2 laptops have the problem at your house. I would look for something in your network setup.
