Anyone getting dead pixels on their new m14x? It looks like I have 1 on mine, and dust under the screen in another spot.

You'd better hope you find more. Dell won't replace your screen with only a single dead pixel, if I remember correctly.

Trying to contact support on dell's website, but the service tag number on the bottom does not work.

You sure it's a dead pixel and not a stuck pixel? (dead pixels are black, stuck pixels are colored)

Hopefully just stuck, then you can try a number of methods to fix it yourself...

Don't know about the accidental warranty. I'd imagine they're still not covered. Then again, you could just punch the screen and get a replacement anyway... Still, that doesn't mean dead pixels are covered.

Actually thats perfect (and made me lol)

So if anything outside of warranty happens, punch your screen and get it replaced?

You: Hi Dell customer support, I just wanted to ask if you replace dead pixels on my new Alienware M14x, with advanced warranty, which I bought for a lot of money.
Dell: Uh sorry sirs we cannots give replacement for such an insignificant issue. More dead pixels are needed.
You: But I paid good money for a system that's imperfect on arrival!
Dell: sorry sirs. There's nothing I can dos.
    [you come back later]
You: Hi Dell, um there's apparently a hole in my screen... hmmm...
Dell: well in that case we'll send you a new system! Thank you for choosing Dell.

    LMAO win !!

I was going to say just say you are not happy with it and want a refund because you are entitled to it for 15 or 30 days. dont even mention the pixel and then order another.

It appears that a couple spots are dust under the screen, anyone know of an easy way to correct this?

    Replacement. :)

Dust under the screen the warranty will cover (without added violence).

Do I have to send it back for this? Or will they send a tech out?

Just noticed that my replacement M14x (first had a defect on the bottom left palm rest - clicking noise) has a bright pixel. It's white - not black...does that mean it is not dead? It is extremely noticeable.

I am tired of these quality control issues. Man...coming from Apple I am just dying here. It's a good thing it was cheap, I guess.

EDIT: looks like there are two - or one large cluster of dead/bright pixels and one smaller pixel.

EDIT2: It seems one dead pixel will get you a replacement...at least according to this 2009 post for the M17x...
    http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&docid=129652&doclang=en&l=en&s=gen&cs=

EDIT3: Sent @DellCares a tweet (I've had good luck with them in the past) to see if they can take care of me. HATE calling in.

Dam that sucks. Yeah I hear ya on that 'coming from apple..' statement. ive been through a 17x r2, 2 17x r3s and now was looking to get another... but they just arent as satisfying with all the little issues. My 17" mbp Unibody was a beauty from the day I got it until the day i regrettably sold it :(

WHite pixels are stuck pixels I believe. I think there are youtube videos and others that flash different colors that can sometimes get a pixel to 'fix' itself. believe it or not when I bought an HP HDX 20" laptop a few years back i had one... I put on the youtube video and voila the stuck pixel started working ! Stuck pixels are sometimes worse than dead ones because when you get black screens or dark images from movies etc you will have one bright dot and it gets annoying.

Yeah...I've had it. Going to return this and call it done with the M14x. Now I'm having boot issues with my SSD (for no apparent reason). What a mess.

Just over heat your your unit with a hair dryer and ask for a new replacement
It is unacceptable to get a lap for 2k with dead pixels SCREAM at them !!

The main problem with Dell is that the people we get on the phone dont even know what a laptop IS lol
