Could someone please tell me why a person should buy M14x

I was wondering why somebody should buy an alienware m14x over an asus g53sw-xn1. On newegg the asus is the same price as a base model m14x ($1200). Yes the asus is heavier/clunkier and it doesn't have fancy colored lights. But what it does come with is a better graphics card (460gtx), better screen resolution, bluetooth, 1 year accidental damage warranty, and 2 more gigs of ram (more ram isn't completely necessary). If you wanted to add some of those things onto an alienware you will have to pay hundreds more.

So, please... I'd love to know: Why would someone buy the m14x knowing that the g53sw-xn1 exists? Are people just hypnotized by the lights and alien logo?

I can't figure out why some people here are just waiting around for some kind of discount on the m14x when they could already have a laptop that can handle anything the m14x can for less.

Isn't that a 15" computer? Some of us are really enticed by the smaller and lighter form of the M14x.

You answered most of it in your second sentence. It's heavier and clunkier.

I think that is what I'll go for... so disappointed with my defective m14x, and the customer care is a nightmare.

Don't care if it's not fancy, but is really g53sw-xn1 better thatn a m14x?

Dell service is great in Canada too, especially since the Alienwares come with next business day in home as standard.

M14X is lighter and smaller. It also comes with next-day on-site tech warranty so you'd have 0 downtime.

If you think Dell/AW CS is a nightmare, try dealing with Asus. They kept my G73JW-3DE for 6 weeks (their reps are far worse).

Yogi the Soyman: You pretty much said it already. m14x is lighter, and yes it looks much better and has cool lights. Some people like the fancy look, I'm one of them. =]

Well, the asus is cheaper, that's the one positive.

the alienware has better design (question of taste though), better battery life, it's smaller and lighter. The purposes of these computers is not the same IMO. One is pretty much a DTR, the other is a gaming notebook that's also relatively portable.

Asus notebook you pointed out looks like a good deal...
But reading the reviews on newegg... I see a lot of folks having issues with the laptop being defective. Not powering up at all... And having a ton of bloatware.

For me personally... I think the m14x is a pretty good machine for it's size... And the 460m is only slightly better.

If I didn't have a beefy desktop already... I would get big laptop.... But. As it stands... I just wanted something to play pc games while I'm away from home.

Battery life and lighter weight. It provides the option of setting down shop and gaming or going mobile.
Another factor is style. Some people like flashy while others like stealthy.

You already know this!! Each person has his/her different needs. Not everyone is a power user. Better does not equal more powerful in everyone's eyes.

5 hour battery life, smaller, lighter, better quality. it can be a portable laptop or a gaming machine. the asus is just a gaming machine.

How does the GTX 460m at 1080p compare to the 555m running at 900p? Also, how does the 460m running a game at 900p comare to the 555m running it at 768p?

I run more demanding games at 1366x768 on my M14x, which has a 1600x900 screen. (Because the resolutions are fairly close to each other, it still looks great). On that Asus laptop, I would probably go for the 1080p screen, so my games could run at 1600x900 and the resolution difference would be comparable to what I get on the M14x. Will the 460m give me better framerates at one resolution step higher than than the 555m?

If that Asus had an option for a 1600x900 screen, it would have definitely been a better choice for me. However, as they have it now, 1366x768 on a 15.6" screen would have been too low res for my taste, but full 1080p might be a little more than I need or want.

Only reason for me is the design. It's easy to find 15''s with better performance AND lower price, but nothing, simply nothing offers the look and feel of an alienware.

well, IMO, at 14", many laptops are verging at the edge of easy portability, especially the m14x. But that's just me and my lazy carry-on rear :p

all that reason... and the sticker thing... asus have way too many stickers man.. i like stickers.. they show off whats inside.. but not any where at the palm rest please... it's get dirty and the sticker worn off then it become ugly.. aw only have 1 sticker at the bottom.. thats where u should place them.. it'll stay clean and nice there.. (microsoft put thier key there and they seems to last longer than the laptop itself)

one of the reason i go for m14x over xps 15.. stickers... sounds small.. but it's big i tell ya..

Asus laptops are built like crap.

    There's my blunt reasoning.

Alienwares are the Ferarri's of the laptop world. (If Macbook's are the Mercedes)

I'd rather have the m14x 1000x over the fugly Asus, specs be damned. I appreciate/desire good build quality in a machine I'm paying $1000 for.

The problem is that the quality of Alienware isn't better, at all.

I'm not saying that they're crap, but they have building and quality issues like ANY OTHER laptop (maybe even more).

And if it's just a matter of look and feel, whatever, I want the best specs in my laptop!

After the terrible experience with my m14x, think I'll wait for tht G53SX.

Doesn anybody knows when it's supposted to be released?

Ridiculous statement. Have you felt an m17x R2?

You obviously haven't. There is no comparison of the anodized aluminum of an m17x R2 to the cheap plastic of an Asus. No comparison. None.

    I haven't, but I've felt the m14x. :)

I'm sure Alienware materials are better than the plastic Asus use, and the general "feel" is better.

But you can see a lot of people having problems with dents, scratches on the screen and stuff like that with Alienware (as with any other brand I guess). This is what I meant when I said building issues.
