This should be in the SSD subforum. It doesn't have anything to do with the M14x in particular.

That said, I've heard the Corsair is having issues.

I didn't say they all have issues. A large enough percentage to cause concern does. Check the Corsair forums and newegg reviews.

Nope, just meant the Corsair Force 3 series has a higher than normal failure/issue rate.

nah as far as Im concerned the problem is sandforce and that crap that they sell and call it a controller

I'm with you on that one, but this drive in particular seems to have a much higher failure rate than other drives with the same controller.

its the same, no difference, same hardware, same controller and same firmware, since its sandforce that makes it, with the OEMs, making minor adjustments

Crucial M4 and Vertex 3 tend to be faster than Corsair Force 3 in my real world benchmarks.

Corsair Force 3 is comparable to OCZ Agility 3.

Be aware of the Sandforce throttle, that happens when you write larger amounts of incompressible data.

I have a Crucial M4 128gb, and honestly I've had more than a few issues with it.

When booting up, I have to go into either BIOS or the Boot priority screen first, otherwise I'll get a Windows error stating that the boot up files cannot be found. Booting up actually takes the same amount of time as a conventional HDD now because of this extra step :(

Before the current issues, I had this same behavior before I started getting BSODs everytime the Windows logo came up. Same drivers and all as my HDD. For now I just went back to the stock HDD until M4 gets a firmware update.

    Are you in AHCI mode?
Did you apply the LPM tweak?

If both answers are yes I'd try a secure erase + clean install.

I haven't heard any compatibility problems yet with the M4. (except for the MBP which has several SSDs that don't work well)

Yes for both. Will probably end up RMA'ing the drive. The thing is, it works fine as an external drive.

i dont even know if I will be getting an SSD after hearing all these stories, everyone has problems, its too risky to pay that much money for something that may or may not work

Intel is a good bet. Their drives just work. Highly reliable and no registry edits required to make them work either. Intel is the best for SSDs IMO.

The m4 is a solid SSD but you will probably need to apply a registry tweak to avoid freezing.

Ok, well thanks alot for the info so far! I need to order an SSD if I am getting one in the next day or so. What would you recommend for a max of $230-250 that I can install easily (I have never done this before) and will run without me having to be a computer engineer to set it up? haha

All the M4 needs is one double click on a .reg file. That's it.

If you don't want to do that and you want a drive that just works: Intel 320 or Samsung 470.
Their speed is compared here: Intel SSD 320 (300GB) Review

When we counted Newegg failures Samsung 470 had the lowest failure rate of any SSD.
