I recently posted a topic similar to this, but I think it varies enough and I'm sure others who are considering making this purchase would appreciate information on this subject.

-How is the cooling in the M14x compared to other similar laptops?

-How many fans does it have?

-Based on the posititioning of the components, is it easy to change the thermal paste in this laptop?

-Has anyone encountered any overheating problems when gaming for long periods of time?

The M14x has one fan, one heat pipe for the CPU and one for the GPU (not the best idea in a gaming laptop). the cooling is fine for most tasks but when I game the CPU gets up to 98c sometimes which is NOT ok with me. The GPU stays under 80c, I just really wish it would stay cooler while gaming. I've never done a re-paste before.

    1. Good but blow alot of hot air out of a single vent which Ive heard some people dont like

    2. 1

    3. Cant say

    4. Nope, my GPU stays under 70 and CPU under 85. I think it can depend on the system because Ive heard similar and different temps from everyone

Yeah I'm trying to decide if I should be going with a desktop and just forget about a laptop considering how much time I spend gaming. People seem to keep telling me that I shouldn't be gaming for long periods of time every day with a laptop. I'm sure this is the case if you were to run, let's say, Crysis 2 at max settings for 6 hours+ a day, but I don't play games with those types of top-notch graphics.

My idea was to keep my desktop for browsing the web, music, videos, word processing while having the laptop along side it strictly for gaming.

I'm starting to think maybe I should scrap the whole laptop idea all together based on these heat concerns.

    Youll have laptop overheating problems

if you buy one from 2004

any post 2010 laptop has heating issues fixed. Sorry to say it so blatantly, but usually people who say those types of things are biased against them. Youre really either a sole desktop support and think laptops are sh*t or you support both desktops and laptops. Depends on which you think is right

No please, be as blatant as you can. I have never owned a laptop so I am completely clueless about these issues.

I have had a number of people tell me that new laptops do not have problems being used in the same fashion as a desktop. You're right about biased desktop owners. They seem very quick to completely trash laptops for gaming.

I wanna thank you though, you've been a great help in my threads. I see you're a member of the tech|inferno boards as well, at least someone with the same user name. :D

    What? IMPOSTERS!

Joking, yeah. My friend thinks laptops are crap because theyre overpriced and dont overheat, but doesnt have a reply to me whenever I ask him to bring his desktop, mouse, monitor, keyboard, and ect in one backpack to my house.
