    Hi all,
Im on a smallish budget and wanted to know whats more effective for cooling/money; buying a cooling pad for the laptop or redoing the paste?

IF you say both what should I drop/get a worse version from my specs to pay for it? CPU, Screen,Wirless card(is this even worth it if I have a average modem?) or something else?

    Thanks

repaste would give better results than any cooling pad (provided you have a stock/crappy paste job to begin with.

a small book to lift the back of your lappy will give the same benefit of a cooling pad (with the exception of a fan)

    Here's what I did:
I cleaned out my fan, knocked off a whole 18 degrees! Then today for Christmas I got a cheap cooling, this one:
    Belkin Cooling Lounge : Target
Max BF3 temperatures is 73... 23 degrees off of my previous highest, costs a total of 30 bucks.

Turn off your turbo boost also. It is free, will not cause much performance loss, and will drop peak temperatures by a fair amount.

You're funny, the Turbo Boost is part of every Core i7 series (not sure if it is part of the entire i3/5/7 Series or not), so yes it IS free, anyway just want to add more, you can turn it off in the BIOS, see the picture below for more info:

In game performance will not decrease, but you would notice that your everyday performance such as copy file or virus scanning will be decrease because what the Turbo Boost do is to auto-overclock the CPU temporary to get thing done faster thus the faster/higher clockspeed mean heat also increase so since it is mainly for getting your everyday thing done faster, so when in game the CPU will just auto-OC all the time and this is the main cause of heat increasing, however this is just my theory, it maybe true and maybe false.
