I use the CM U1 (with 1 fan) for my M11x R2 and the CM U3 (with 3 fans) for my M17x R3.

I just recently got an M14x R2 and tried using it on the U3. The U3 is a tad bit big for the M14x. It slips down the U3's aluminum surface since the M14x's rubber feet do not contact the non-slip rubber locations on the U3.

So now, I'm thinking of getting the CM U2 with two fans. The good thing about the U1, U2 and U3 is that you can move the fans around underneath the laptop.

The cooler pad definitely brings down the temps (~5-8 degrees) of the laptops especially when used for a prolonged period of time. I highly recommend using one.

I saw the X3 in-store and it does have cool lighting. I'll give it that. hehe The price turned me off for what you get though.

The X3 cooler body is not as open as the U series cooling pads. It may be designed that way to channel airflow? I'm not a design expert but I think using the U series design that is wide open underneath is better than the X3's.
