My Alienware m14 is now switching between charging and battery power and after 5 or so minutes of running it crashes, thought my motherboard had gone.

But this morning it came up with a bios message saying that my battery had experience complete failure and needed replacing.

Has anyone else had this message or similar problem?

I have seen that error before. Try without the battery to see if it starts doing it again. If it doesn't, you may need a new battery.
