Despite the high prices, the headsets from Razer are fun and well-built

Im considering the alienware tactx headset, but im wondering if its worth the money, or if its overpriced due to the label.

I have a set of Astro A40's for my consoles and their A*Star in-ear phones for my laptop. On the PC just use a plain Logitech Gaming Headset that wraps around the back of my head. Works fine and if I want to be really immersed, I go grab the A40's.

If you're only looking for the functionality of a headset, you could easily use any old pair of headphones along with the built-in mic to talk during games.

If you're looking into a headset for quality, I've heard good things about Turtle Beach. I've never used one myself.

I've own a lot of headsets... from creative Sigma Alpha, to Sennheiser PC360, Astro A40, A30, WoW Wireless Headset. I've owned the cheaper Razer headset, and the Tritton AX Pros....

I really like the my Astro A30s for their portability and overall functionality, along with generally good sound quality. They are a bit over $100 from Dell, but well worth it.

They come with 3 different cables, shorter cable for your mobile phone/mp3 player, with 4-pole connector... so you could use it as a headset for your iphone, and that cable also includes an in-line button for phones that use it.

And it also has a longer 4-pole cable and the standard Pink/green mic aand sound cable for your laptop.

The headset itself has an inline mic AND the standard type of boom mic found on most headsets, which can be disconnected.

And last, but not least, it's easily one of the most stylish headsets I've owned.

A lot of the other headsets I see mentioned on here are all good headsets, but most of them are pretty bulky and not very good for on-the-go.

But if you plan to leave them at home, my personal preference would be one of the higher end Razer headsets or the WoW Wireless Headset. The WoW headset is really nice because it just needs the single USB Dongle and your connected... And it's rechargable through the USB Port... and has amazing clarity for a Wireless headset. It doesn't sound compressed at all. The drivers also have some really nice features for EQ and simulated surround that works pretty well... it's really bulky though.

I would not recommend the Alienware TactX. In term of gaming, it might be appropriate, but listening to music with it is a PAIN.
The AX PRO seems a lot more appropriate if you want to still be able to consider music, but a lot more expensive too.

PS : I do not own an AX PRO, so I can't tell if it's really as good as the reviews say. I use a Sennheiser HD 448 but I listen to music a lot more frequently than I game so my advice might not be the best in your case.

The AX Pros aren't good for music..
They use something like 4 small drivers in each ear... which just can't reproduce good sound quality and good overall frequency response. Some people like them because they do "True Surround Sound" by basically have the drivers spaced around your ear to simulate a 5.1 setup. The bass is supposed to be pretty good too... because of one of the drivers being dedicated to bass.

All-in-All though.. I wasn't impressed by them and ended up returning them the same day. I think Simulated surround w/ Dolby Headphone with a good stereo headset works just as well... and you get much better overall sound quality from a good stereo headset. I felt like the design of the AX Pros were very gimmicky. Not to mention the headset is super stiff and uncomfortable, IMO.
