I get my Alienware r2 tomorrow, and I've been preparing to just to a clean install as soon as I get it. I'm a little new to the SSD + HD combination. I got the 500 GB + 64GB SSD.

So when I do my clean install is it going to show two drives?

And if it does, do I wipe the 64GB and choose it for my bootdrive?

Thanks for any help that is given, and sorry if this sounds like a noob question.

Yep - i ordered the same config.

You can do it all from windows install. The boot disk on mine was already set to the mSata 64Gb SSD.

Put your Windows 7 disk in and get the the drive partitions selection, you'll see the 64gb drive with 2 or 3 partitions, i removed them all (as i didn't want the recovery partition) and created one partition on it, I also removed the partiton on the other disk for now so that windows wouldnt do something stupid with drive lettering.

Windows may create an extra 100Mb partition but this is fine.

Install windows and then using Disk Management you can partiton the second drive.

It maybe that windows install will deal with it properly, but I have done stuff like this in the past and ended up with my o/s on the d: drive *grr*

Okay cool, I get it later today and I'm just trying to prepare myself for any curve balls that come my way.

Good luck with you clean install!! BTW, may you confirm if making the clean install, the FN functions of the keyboard still work? I made a clean install some months ago and the combinations FN+Pause(CommandCenter) and FN+F1 (switch monitors) stop working. I made a lot of thinks trying fix this but i can't find it.Then i made a alienrespawn restore and all works again. Thanks.

Edit: here is the link to the thread Fn+F2;Fn+F1;Fn+Pause doesn't work
