So I ordered the laptop with the i7 2730m, and the 3GB 555m.

Should I change it to the i7 2820m, and downgrade to the 1.5GB 555m? Apparently the extra memory doesn't do much, which I didn't know at that time :(.

I purchased it on May 3rd, so it should be almost ready to ship by now, anyone have experience with changing orders?

Most of people here will suggest you to keep 2720qm and downgrade to 1.5GB 555m to save $100~

Try calling the rep from your email confirmation (that is if you ordered by phone). He/she might tell you that you might be able to cancel your order and will have to do another one. That's what I did, but my change was done the same day I ordered, so I'm not sure...good luck!

My purchase was done on the website. I don't mind changing the order, it's just the wait time that really ticks me off. Changing it would probably mean adding another 2 weeks of wait time, and with the new specs would add another $200, as they boosted up the price of the 2830QM .

I think I may just have to stick with the current setup. Can anyone confirm whether they work on the laptops during the weekends or not? If it doesn't ship by Friday, my best option would be to change it.

Drop the CPU to the 2630qm and the gfx to the 1,5gb. You'll save some money and the performance diff will be hardly noticable (for the CPU that is, the 3gb GFX will never help in any situation).

So im guessing the best bang for buck in this case is the preset cpu and gpu?

Yeah, but if you still want to upgrade I think CPU is the way to go, as GPU is somewhat pointless :p

Do not upgrade the CPU, not worth your moolah. Definitely DITCH THE 3GB Nvidia, such a waste of money. You will see absolutely NO gain with the 3GB on the Nvidia. I find it ludicrous that Dell is even offering that upgrade.

Just thought of something else. Is this for gaming? If primarily for gaming you don't need the 2720qm because you'll notice no difference whatsoever. So, if for gaming Drop the CPU to the 2630 and Drop the GB on the graphics. :)

Yeah its not worth it, but just saying if he still REALLY wants to. I know the feeling of trying to make sure you have the best possible ;)

Stock cpu and gpu, I personally thought neither upgrade was worth it for me.

On a really weird side. The big 1.5gb vs 3gb gpu argument. I saw the xps 17" has a similar choice in the uk.
. The options are for the additional £30

    3gb GT555

    3gb GT555 with 3d (£30 Extra?)

    ? lol

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

It appears how you actually get to the laptop depends on the choice you get. This was from a link in my email box this morning.

Pick a 3d screen and you have to buy an additional 3d graphics card............DELL

Alright, so I made the change.

Also, I downgraded the 750GB sata to the 500GB, and went for the 4GB ram instead of 6GB. I originally forgot to get the sound card upgrade, but now I did.

After hst/gst, I ended up with an extra 20 dollars on the bill. I doubt I'll need more than 4GB, and I've never found myself short of space even on a 160GB+80GB computer. Only thing is after I changed the order, they referred me to some druggie sounding guy in customer service who told me they are undergoing maintainence, and to call back in 1 hour, which I will do.

Scary thing is, in the meantime I'm currently processing BOTH laptops under my credit card, so if I don't get the order changed soon (cancel/reorder), the original laptop may ship and I could be screwed.

    *Edit, here's my new spec.
