I have the M14x with the GT 555m. I am trying to hook the laptop to my TV with HDMI to HDMI connection, but it is not working. My laptop screen goes blank, and the TV, which is on the correct input, says "No signal."

This is baffling me. Notes to consider:

    * I have downloaded the latest NVIDIA driver for the GPU. (The connection problem was an issue with previous drivers as well and was not fixed with the new driver.)

    * The TV is a Samsung LN40A450C1d with the latest firmware installed.

    * I get the same connection problem from M14x to TV using different HDMI cables.

    * My HP Mini 311 netbook is able to pump a signal out from its HDMI output to the TV without a problem.

    * I've tried different resolutions on the NVIDIA GPU in addition to the 1366 x 768 recommended for the TV without success.

I've seen the occasional post about this same problem on various forums, but have not seen a solution. Any takers? It would be highly appreciated.

    Hello, Caspercat, welcome to NBR!

Just to rule possible hardware issues, can you output thru HDMI with the Dell drivers?

have you configured a second screen on your nvidia grafic options?
which driver have you used to one from dell or from the nvidia site?

what you can try also, deinstall nvidia driver plua the intel 3000 drivers,
then reinstall first the intel 3000 with optimus from the dell website and after that the nvidia one

    hope this helps

When you plug the hdmi into your tv. On nvidia control panel make sure you set the output for the tv and change the resolution to 1280x720. This worked for me.

Thanks for the welcome, and the quick reply.

I haven't tried outputting through Dell drivers. When I got the machine, advice found here suggested installing the NVidia drivers since Optimus wasn't working properly (ie would not go to discrete card for 3D games).

I've only used NVidia drivers, because Optimus wasn't working with the Dell stock drivers when the system first arrived.

I'll try the uninstalling, then reinstalling suggestion. Could be a couple of days before I get to it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think I tried that resolution, but will try again. The problem is that when the M14x and TV are connected, the M14x screen goes blank, so I can't adjust any settings until I unplug the cable. Without plugging in the cable, I can't change the output settings or set up a second screen.
