As you can see the core speed is 2800 and from my knowledge that means 2.8ghz is what it's running @.. i have the m14x 2.2ghz 3.1ghz turbo mode, turbo mode is disabled through bios. I have reset my GPU clocks back thinking it could have something to do with them i highly doubt it but i tried anyways, that did nothing. I've also been having outbursts of lagg, i mean the pc will run fine then freeze up then be fine again and maybe an hour or so later it will be fine. I also have my temps going from 55-72 in random and it's worrying me...... i'm not 100% sure what this is, could it be because i unlocked and vmodded it? this laptop is barely a week old and i would like for it to be running as stable as i can get it. I was thinking of re-pasting it because i've heard dell are sometimes slack at doing it and people have had to re-do it them selves with in a couple of days of purchasing the laptop. Appreciate anything you guys have! :). My cpu temps atm are 1, 58, 2, 56, 3, 62, 4, 55 they all vary between 50-72. Thanks! My GPU generally runs fine, maybe 55 tops.

    Did you install an SSD?

Also does it only freeze up when you comeback from sleep or hibernation?

If it only happens well gaming I would assume the overclock maybe just needs to be lowered a little. Because I don't think it's your CPU since the temperatures are low, but may be someone else will have a better idea.

I would try without a volt-mod BIOS. If you get this problem at stock speeds (on GPU), then there is something wrong with your machine. If just overclocked, then your overclock is simply unstable :) (good thing, just need to get a different speed)

How do i go back to an original bios after i've done the unlock and voltmod?
    :)

Actually after i've stopped using msi it hasn't done it.. not yet anyway, since i've use nvidia control panel everything seems to be running okay... is 55-65 ok temps for my cpu on idle?

65 seems a tad high compared to what I see but 65 isn't at all bad in anyway. The most important thing is that the temperature doesn't ever reach 100 Celsius :D

well it doesn't hit 65 on idle much, it stays around mid 50's occasionally it will bump up to 60. but i've got steam skype xfire and mozilla open :)

could anyone link me to the stock ao8 bios at all? :/.
I'm not sure if that's it, why would it be showing up 2.7ghz in cpu-z i haven't touched the mhz for that!

something seriously wrong, just jumped up to 80c! What the heckkkk.. this is horrible :S

Go to dell.com, upper right click login into your account. Once logged in near the bottom select "My Products and Services" find your service tag, if you never have done this before you may need to get the tag off the bottom of your machine.

Then once your service tag and computer is under the "My Products List" click on the service tag, then you will see a bunch of tabs click on "Drivers and Downloads" then you'l see BIOS downloads.

Ok done, it's not sticking @ 2.8ghz its going down under 1ghz then going back up like it doesn't wanna make up its mind. after i restarted cpu temps are under 60 low 50's but i'll keep you all informed of how it goes... does it matter if it jumps up to 2.8 without turbo mode? haha... actually turbo mode will be enabled now cos i just put a new bios in! time to disable it! BRB :)

The reason you see it dipping below 2.2ghz is because of a technology called Intel SpeedStep which down clocks your CPU if it doesn't need to be running at max performance to save power and create less heat. Although I don't believe it would increase the clock over stock settings, that's what turbo boost is for. ;S

I would set your BIOS back to a non-modded, don't OC your GPU, turn turbo boost on and see if it ever freezes up, then I would call Dell and tell them your machine isn't performing correctly.

Another comment too, if your temperatures are not too crazy well gaming may be leave turbo boost on it seems it give a bit of an increase in FPS in some games. I even suggest this more if you got a 2-3 year warranty so if it burns out from it you get it fixed for free :p

ah ok... fair enough, thanks for that. I've set up my bios to be non-modded and it has a fresh ao8. I oc'd my gpu to 800/1600/1080 core/shader/memory i just set it back to default though. :)

Umm i've realized my pc will run fine and low temps.. then i get into a game, they will rise up.. not 2 much nothing over 76, but then they hang around the 65-70c mark...

I think it's the computer's problem though. I just got a little freeze-up. but then again it could be something i've installed.
I'm not illiterate with computers, i know what's right to install and whats wrong so it couldn't be anything I'VE done.

if it happens to be the computer and not programs and i've modded my bios but put it back to factory, could they check that? I only bought the laptop last friday, it has a years manufacturer warranty

could the reason for staying those temps because the surface it's on is that hot..?? haha

Nope they can't tell. The only time a little freezing I would see and count as acceptable would be when opening large files in intensive programs, the computer just turned on and the user interface is still loading up.

But I watched the video you posted and I don't think that should happen well gaming, nor has it happened to me in gaming in like 300+ hours.

Ah ok, what about my temp problem, i'm still worried it's varying 60-70 cpu.
See my task manager seems to be rocketing sky high. http://i40.tinypic.com/2vmhidf.png but it's only on low %... i'm barely running anything. Do you have steam i can talk to you on DC87. or even skype? :)

temps are slowly going down.. mid 60's i reckon it will get back down to the 50's just might take a few mins :p
