Is that way to hot? I just downloaded Core temp and after playing Skyrim an hour it began to report those temperatures. Or at least max being that.
Is it dangerously hot? Today I ran it off my cooling pad and thats when it hit those temps. Should I re-apply thermal paste?

    That's way too hot.

    You need to repaste, definitely.

Either repaste or always use the cooling pad.

Did you disable the Turbo Boost found in the BIOS? Disable the Turbo Boost will help reduce around 5C - 10C, and use a cooler will also help you reduce more, before I bought the cooler and disable the TB, my temp use to be at around 90C - 99C, but after I disable it and got a cooler, the temp never go above 93C.

that is really hot... like what they said, re-apply a thermal paste. and keep using a cooling pad. what's your processor by the way?

Intel Core i7 2630Qm. I have no overclocked it. It runs at about 50-60 degrees idle. (Although it is summer here) (so warmish) and then jumps in temps when I play games. Re-applying thermal paste means disassembling the whole laptop does it not?

yep.. it means dissecting it... dont worry, search on youtube... there's a video guide there on how to apply thermal paste on the m14x (it's actually a video of tearing down your laptop)... i got the 2670 and it does go hot... around 97 tops..

even with the youtube videos and other guides, might be a bit much for someone new to taking apart laptops (so much crap to disconnect and reconnect)... go to your local computer repair shop if you're not comfortable with repasting - and make sure you use a good thermal paste (i prefer shin etsu, but there are others just as good).

oh yeah, forgot - if you get the cpu repasted, don't forget to get the GPU repasted since it's pretty much right there (and often also suffers the same overheating issues)

this is correct.. the GPU and CPU have unified heatsink and both should be re-applied with thermal paste. I use the ThermalTake TG2... got me about 5 deg. down...

Yeah. I watched a dis assembly video and it is good for dis assembling. But remembering to put every plug back in is a problem. And every screw. Its nice how the GPU and CPU are the darn last parts of the laptop. So everything has to go to get to them. Just swapped my HDD for an SSD yesterday. And during the first boot I had to stop and go back into the laptop to connect the optical drive properly again. Imagine that happening on a component that takes the whole laptop to dis assemble. Anyway temps are down now. Usually 70-80 when gaming. Seemed to jump on that day. But I'll still repaste.

Thinking of Arctic Silver 5. Can't go wrong apparently.
    Cheers!
