Hi! I want to know if these temperature of CPU are normal (while the pc are surfing on firefox, with some programs running, like steam; look at the screenshot). AlienAutopsy show only one temperature, and i think there is the avergae of 4 cores. But with others software, like speedfan or HWmonitor, i read different temperatures (more less).
The 4th cores (core 03) is always hotter. Is it normal?

Anyway, i read that alienware thermal paste doesn't work well, and maybe i'll repaste. But now i want to know about temperature with a new alienware m14x.

Repasting should and will make it colder by anywhere between 5 to 20 degrees under light workload if your laptop's an alienware.
Throttlestop with Extra Data will probably report the most accurate temps.
If you put it under load and it stays under tjmax, you're basically safe, although this CPU shouldn't get anywhere near that hot in an alienware anyway.

Ok, thanks. I don't understrand what is TJMAX, is a value that i can read using the software THROTTLESTOP ?

Also, i did a test: while i'm playing Skyrim, 1600x900 resolution, ULTRA details, antialiasing 8x and antisotropic 16x, the temperature of 4th core stays on 70C (so the others cores probably a littel bit low), with speedfan meter.
I think 70C while i'm gaming woth these details is a good temperature.

TJ Max is the maximum safe operating temperature for your CPU. Stay under that temperature and your CPU is designed by Intel to be able to run at full speed. If your CPU reaches that temperature, it will start to thermal throttle and slow down which reduces performance. Some laptops will do a premature thermal shutdown at this temperature.

TJ Max for a 3630QM is 105C. This value is set by Intel at the factory and any monitoring software can read the correct value directly from the CPU.

Unfortunately, some versions of SpeedFan do not seem to be reading this value correctly. When this happens, your reported core temperatures will not be accurate. If you like SpeedFan then there is a way to adjust the TJ Max value that SpeedFan is using. After you do this, it should show the same core temperature values as other programs do.

I know that ThrottleStop 5.00 and RealTemp and Core Temp use the correct TJ Max value and will report your core temperatures correctly. I suggest that you use any of the following programs to compare SpeedFan to. The latest version of SpeedFan might have corrected this problem.

Thanks!! I installed coretemp, and it's very useful becouse i can check temperatures on taskbar.

I would like to find a way for seeing the CPU temperature ALWAYS on screen, while i'm playing, like with msi afterburner, with which i can see teh GPU temperature in a corner of the screen.

I have a m14x R2, but I've noticed that it shuts down the fan in idle mode. This is great sound-wise but it means the idle temps are higher than they would be otherwise. 60C is certainly not dangerous but repasting doesn't hurt, the stock paste is just that cheap pre-applied crap (I've done this to mine already).

A lack of rapid change in temperature probably offsets the higher idle temperatures.
