I know the U2 is supposed to have a better fit but I'm thinking the U3 might be better in case I decide to get a larger laptop some day. How much extra space will there be if I use the U3?

I'd Suggest the U2, I have it and it fits perfectly. If your planning on getting a bigger laptop though, don't get the U2, it just fits with about 1 inch on either side.

I would go that route also. U2 is physically perfect for your lappy.

I have the U3 for my 17inch sager and it is huge. It will definitely fit any large laptop, but your m14 will have plenty of room. It is a nice metal cooler, so if you don't mind the look it may not bother you.
