Hey guys im buying a m14x on black friday and I need some advice on weather or not to buy an ssd separately and install it myself or get the 256GB ssd from alienware for $400 and save myself the headache of trying to get it to work. (I understand this process has been know to work sometimes but not every time.) If you think I should buy separately what brands/types of drives have been known to work? Im looking for the range of 120GB-250GB.

Also any other advice is welcome and appreciated!

Definitely buy your own, very easy to change. Just need a small electrical screw driver - takes 3mins without any prior experience. Don't feed Dells greed on this.

OCZ, Intel, Corsair - all great brands with much better specs and cheaper than the Sata 2 spec Samsung SSD that is offered from Dell - As a bonus you can keep the stock 500GB HD as a USB back-up or extra storage.

Happy gaming on your new machine :)

Def buy your own, cant comment on the m14x install. But i have a crucial m4 ssd and honestly think its the best one out there right now. Stay away from OCZ sandforce drive, nothing but problems.

yea I've only been recommended the crucial M4 in the M17x forum. Haven't heard of a crucial failing but I've heard plenty of Horror stories about the OCZ stuff. The intel line of SSD's also are good but are pretty expensive from what I understand. :)

Thanks for the advice guys. The m14x has shipped and will be here on the 1st. I went with a 128gb crucial M4 and that is also getting here on the 1st.
