When I learned the M14 R2 had a 9.5 mm slot loading bluray drive, I tracked one down to buy for my Envy 15, MATA DVD-CMB UJ167. The only person selling them is a guy on ebay. Anyways, the drive that I got cannot be authenticated with any bluray player software. Instead, to get it to play or work with most discs, I need to use AnyDVD HD which strips the encryption and security features. Has anyone had similar issues with their drive? If not, could someone please tell me if their laptop requires any special software or drivers for it to work properly? I wonder if the firmware is bad on mine or not. If so, It doesn't help matters that i can't find any anywhere to download and reflash the drive.

I'm just looking for buying this drive.
What Blue-Ray did you try to play, did you use PowerDVD (the installed software is rather old V9). You need to test with an old Blue-Ray disk. Cyberlink says this on there website:
    "Support Notice"
As the development phase of CyberLink PowerDVD 9 Ultra retail version has now ended, there will be no further Blu-ray Disc compatibility updates for this version. Any Blu-ray Disc titles released after 2011 June may not be compatible with CyberLink PowerDVD 9 Ultra retail version

I've used versions 11 and 12, and software from many other vendors, all with the same result. I've heard from others that bought this drive that they have the same problem.

This week I received a UJ267 drive (read and write) and it works without a hitch. It has firmware version 1.01 while my UJ167 has 1.00. From what I've seen on ebay, the UJ167 now ships with firmware version 1.01. I'm hopeful that someday, someone will have posted that 1.01 firmware update for the UJ167 so that I can get it working right.
