Alright so I get this screen when I first turn on my computer:

Thankfully I just have to press CTL+ALT+DELETE for it to boot up, but I am not sure why it got that way in the first place? I did notice it started doing this after using the program Remove Empty Directories...I also use CCleaner and Glary Utilities on a regular basis to keep my computer clean as well as cleaning out the TEMP folder using %temp% command.

Any ideas how to fix this?

That seems like a O.S corruption, you should try going back to a previous date with system restore or maybe just take the computer back to the factory state using the AlienRespawn.

I think it would be better to do it again. Here is how.

Thanks, I hate doing clean installs they are such a PITA, but I should be able to do it fairly quick considering the fact that I just did it a month ago

So even after the clean install my computer is still continuing to come up to the blank screen where I have to press CTL+ALT+DELETE...whats going on?

I have tried both the A05 and A08 BIOS and my firmware for my SSD is updated...I really don't know what would be wrong?

It is a little interesting because it doesn't always do it...I just removed the old service pack backup files and ran CCleaner to remove all the temp files etc that are used during a new installation of Windows...I rebooted and it didn't do it

However, probably 8 out of 10 times it does it.

It could be the Windows updates have you tried disabling them?

Why would I disable Windows updates though?

EDIT: I tried that and it didn't work

I called Alienware Technical Support, but because my warranty was over about 2 months ago they said they couldn't do much for me...I am a college student so I simply don't have $200-$300 for an extended warranty...the rep said I could send it in and they would fix it for $269....that's not an option for me.

I tried disconnecting my laptop cooler and Razer Naga mouse from the USB port before booting and I have had 4 successful boots so far...I will be able to tell in the next day if maybe that is what the problem was...

EDIT: well so far I have had about 8 boots with no problems...don't wanna jinx myself but maybe the issue is gone...this is quite bizarre

Sometimes that screen pops up when you have a CD/DVD inside your computer's CD/DVD tray while you boot. Check your boot settings in the BIOS and make sure your HDD is #1. Other peripherals can cause that screen as well.

hello, I have same problem. I have 2 installed graphic cards, the Intel HD 3000 and the nVidea GT550 , when i was working on my Autocad program I found some lag because it seems that the program was working on the Intel one. so I opened device manager and disabled the HD Intel card and a black screen displayed ... I restart the windows , stille black screen and tried to plug an outside computer screen into VGA socket in my laptop to display the image to restore the Intel card and it also dont work... :/ anyone has any solution please reply.. thank you.. :)
