Opened up my laptop today to this

    http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx166/RioRyan/photo.jpg

it slowly got smaller until there was a quiet cracking sound and it disappeared completely

but I'm still scared. what if it happens again and doesn't go away? It seems to be by design... I had it in my backpack, which I was wearing.

I saw this on mine one day but it's gone now. Maybe just be careful nothing is leaning too hard against it. PS I freaked out too as my device was 2 days old ;)

That's just the plastic cover sticking to the LCD. It's because you had something pressing on the lid. It's nothing to worry about, and if it bothers you too terribly much, you can pull the plastic trim ring (which is attached to the plastic cover over the screen) off of the laptop, and put it back. There is a video on the forums here somehwere of how to take that cover off. If I find it, I'll post the link.

So in my backpack it is on my back, in a slot between my backpack and my back. Is there a certain way I should face it? Maybe with the bottom towards my back? or do you think it would even make a difference

Yeah, that plastic is a little fragile, so be careful. And in your backpack, whatever is pressing against it. If you're putting pressure on the machine with the curve of your back, then turn it around.
