Yes, that's the one id recommend. Crucial, samsung, and intel have the best drives. I recommend doing a clean install, because when you image a hdd to an ssd, the partitions will get misaligned because of where the ssd starts the image vs the hdd, and you will lose some performance. Just make sure to change your bios to ahci before you install windows to lower the chances of running into problems.

if i use alien respawn with the factory settings image, is that okay? its restores it to before it says "preparing your computer for first time use" so i think thats okay right?

    ALSO

how is this particular model's performance? is it any good?

    This happened in m14x-R1 , http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m14x/630111-boot-up-issues-ssd-who-all-affected.html

Not sure about m14x-R2 did not receive mine yet , I'll go for OCZ for better boot up speed , I'm using Crucial c300 , it just started to fail last week (used for 2 years)

M4 is kinda cheap recently , well it still a good ssd.

Intel & Samsung has the best SSD , they kinda last and stable as usual.

Alien respawn is the best way to restore your alienware machine , so you don't have to install all drives again , it won't reduce your ssd performance.

I ordered the Crucial 256 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT256M4SSD2 from newegg the other day when they were on sale for $200. I dont have much experience with SSD's but the reviews seem good. Ill update when it gets installed.

I got one too, the ssd is top notch. Do not worry, you will be satisfied, just do a fresh W7 install with the DVD provided and install all the latest drivers later on.

Samsung 830 is my choice of SSD, while more costly than the others, it has performed flawlessly on my R1, even on BIOS A03..(before I went A05)

Whatever you do don't go for OCZ/vertex SSDs
They are the most unreliable things ever that you can put in your computer

    Yep - Agree 100%.

SSD's with comparable prices that are a good buy:
    Crucial; Kingston; Corsair; Patriot

    Top SSD's are:
Intel; Samsung <--- Both are very expensive

    ---

    OCZ is trash.

    Why?

-> 1 in 3 failure rates+ with most of their products (based on user reviews) [33%+ negative reviews; several 100's sample pool]
-> If reviewers give them a negative review, OCZ no longer allows them to review their products
-> If someone posts anything negative on their forums, they delete it to give the illusion that their products are good
