Hi all, future M14x owner here.

I will soon be ordering the stock system with 3610, 900p screen, and Killer wireless card upgrade. Will be leaving the HDD and RAM stock as I'm thinking of upgrading it myself.

Which brand is the best for it? I heard Intel's is good and Crucial too. Thinking of going 256GB on it. As for RAM, are there any gaming specific RAM out there?

Lastly, and I know this has been asked a lot here, is it necessary to get the 2GB video card upgrade? I don't think I'll be doing dual monitor gaming, the most I might do is output it to my Apple Cinema Display.

    Thanks.

The Crucial M4 that I purchased 1 year ago still remains to be one of the best and most reliable SSDs on the market. For $240, I'd say it is clearly the best value out there. However, for pure random access speed (which I think is way more important than sequential speeds) the OCZ Vertex 4 is the king. For fast sequential speeds, however, the Samsung 830 is just about king. The M4 falls right in the middle and because of it's price and reliability, still comes out a winner.

For laptop RAM I'd go with anything Kingston.

Be advised , don't get Vertex 4. I'm using it right now , going to refund it soon. it having too much issue with m14x.

Everytime you boot in bios , it unable to detect Vertex SSD.

As ram , HyperX PnP 1866mhz is the best out there.

About 2GB video Card , if you not going for external monitor , you don't need to upgrade it. If you use it often , you might consider it.

For the ssd, Crucial, samsung, intel, i heard their budget 330 series are good, but the 520 are awesome. For the ram, it doesn't really matter too much, patriot, corsair, kingston, and g skill all make great ram.
