There is a good thread about this somewhere on this forum if you do a google search for notebook review cpu and gpu temperature monitoring.
I use CPUID HWMonitor because it is very straightforward. There ones that are recommended above this one require way too much work to figure out how to get it to report a simple temperature.
CPUID HWMonitor will show the CPU temperature and GPU temperature automatically (all you do is launch the program). However, it does not display the NVIDIA GeForce GT 555m graphics card temperature unless I start a game (like Dragon Age: Origins), then minimize out of the game to the desktop while the game is still running, and THEN start CPUID HWMonitor.
Definitely recommended for ease of use. -
Cheers I will give it a go

Keep in mind that the column of temperatures on the right (min/max) will display your highest temperature over the time period the program was running. So if you want to know how hot your CPU and GPU are getting, that is the more important set of numbers.
However, even though my i7 processor reaches 91 sometimes, it does not seem to stay at 91 for very long at all. So I would not worry about your temperatures unless you surpass 91 degrees for CPU in a short period of time. My GPU (I have the 3 GB GT 555m) never really gets very high at all.
Also keep in mind that the intel core i5 and i7 are supposedly designed to operate at very high temperatures, so unless you are boiling water I think you are fine (or maybe get a good warranty in case).
