Sounds like a BIOS problem. Do you have an Alienware 14, M14xR1 or an M14xR2? Sorry to have to ask, but it seems nobody wants to use the correct names any more so we have to ask for clarification every time to know what machine is being discussed. What might fix it for the M14xR1 or M14xR1 probably won't work for the new Alienware 14 because the BIOS is too locked down to fix anything.

Are you able to identify what might have triggered this, or was it totally sudden and unexpected, without any system changes that you know of?

If you are still under warranty, call 1-800-ALIENWARE and have them fix it for you.

Or send me a PM and I'll help out with the dispatch. Have you tried clearing the CMOS or doing a power drain?

We still don't know for sure which model this person has. Clearing the CMOS in the normal way no longer works with Haswell because the corrupt settings are stored in NVRAM and not flushed.

I wish there was an easier way, but the only way to do this that I am aware of remove all memory modules, power up and walk away from the system and let it beep. When it shuts itself off, put the memory back in... power up, then power down, and it should be back to normal.

That's true, if you have one of the newest ones please use Mr. Fox's suggestion.
