I'm thinking about an MX14 r2....i like the horsepower it offers but honestly won't need it. I really hate being tethered to a power cord (i use my laptop on my couch and i dont have a desk in my room or an office at home)

So how much battery can i expect from just surfing the web and playing some music?

I haven't tested it specifically, but with the Optimus tech being enabled on it and already boasting a 6+ hour battery life. I'd say between 6.5 and 7.5 hours. This of course will depend on screen brightness, how demanding of tasks you're doing while browsing and jamming out, and if your computer has to kick in that 650 for any of the tasks you're performing.

really? most reviews I have read say that the battery is worse than the sandy bridge version. I really hope so, I have the new XPS 15 currently and was thinking about switching over

It depends on how much you take care of it. Here is an article about this.

how are you accomplishing this software wise? or is the battery on the mx14r2 really that good?

that beats the asus n56 and most gaming laptops

Well I have read posts in this forum of people criticizing the battery life but I actually just gave it a real life test - alien fx off, brightness 1 from lowest and power saver plan and got 6hrs and 42mins (monitor on the whole time). I do have a SSD and I made sure I power cycled 4 times when I first got it and never charge until battery is down to 60%. Maybe Im just lucky :s

Yeh mine said over 8 hours too but when u actually run it down it's usually a bit less - the battery indicator is slightly inaccurate
