    ...I wish I knew a veteran...

Edit: 554.25 is way more than 25% off. It's closer to 50% (the regular base price of an Alienware M14x R2 is $1099).

Yea I should be more clear, it's 25% off of their normal discount of 20 to 25%. So the actual discount is 40 to 50 percent.

Yeah Im really glad I pay attention to the forums everyday! I forgot my dad can shop through there! Never would have thought about it if it wasnt for you guys so thanks! I was really trying to justify the $1700 I spent ordering the R2. Im about to configure a system now.. Kinda makes me want an M17x through there.

Guess ill be cancelling the order i placed last week if I can get it to work

I see that your specs are a bit better than robkuba's specs on the first post. However, ronkuba's total is $554 while yours is $1024? Is it that much of an increase for the higher specs such as 1600x900 lcd, bigger HD, etc.? Did it give you a breakdown of how much each upgrade item added to the $554 price?

I bought one. Exactly the same specs as M11xDude above.

My first non-thinkpad laptop, but I've really only bought it to play Diablo III and Starcraft II on. Didn't want to buy a desktop and monitor so decided to buy this. Will this run Diablo III at a decent performance setting?

I know it's rude to ask, but if someone can hook me up with one, I'd really appreciate it. Relative's going to college this August, and he's a BF3 addict, so he keeps asking me how he can get in on this deal. I'll pay extra money for your trouble, as well. Thanks for any help.

Hey Redgrenadine! Congrats on your purchase as well!

I've checked out YouTube videos on Diablo III gameplay and it looks good on the older GT555M. With the verified ~50% increase in performance with the GT650M, it should be pretty decent to run Diablo III.

Great. Seems like there are some other videos of the M14x too at high settings.

Looking forward to actually playing games on my computer for once again. The Thinkpad T410s is a great machine but definitely is not built for 3D games.

Not for nothing but, Veterans and active duty military should be getting these machines for free IMO.. Your sacrifice is worth more than 50% of a computer, Dell/Alienware (being american companies) should be showering you guy with free stuff... Just sayin. good deal though

I read that 1gb video is same as 2gb on a 900p screen, I Hope what I read was correct. Also, it was only +4$ for the i7-3610QM and I also read that all games out dont even use 4 cores so getting the min shouldnt matter there either. What else should I know? Did I do anything wrong with this build?

You did great with that build! 2GB on a 900P screen is not needed. 4 cores ensures you have longevity for future games. And for +$4 is a no-brainer. Same build as mine actually.

I wonder why only the Basic warranty is offered through AAFES. I really wanted to get the CC warranty on mine, but don't see anywhere to add it.

The 2GB is worthless unless you connect your laptop to two external monitors simultaneously. Just because a few people are getting it doesn't mean it's good. They either will use duo-monitors or have been taking advance of - given the illusion that they would get a performance increase in games.

BF3 can run on high+ on my R1, so it will have absolutely no problem running on the R2 with superior settings.

    :)

Honestly I think Dell is doing more for our brave fighting men and women than anybody. I honestly do not see Apple doing such a thing.

LOL, I was just about to post this. In my original order I paid $1007, but I didn't notice the field for the name plate information. I called dell to see if they could add it to my order but they said I had to cancel and resubmit if I want my info on the name plate. So, they just saved me ~$270. The military buys tons of Dell products...they're the only PCs I've seen on the ships and offices I've worked in. It's nice they give these kinds of discounts for our personal use!

Ok, I really wish I understood how all of this worked. I've looked everywhere to find out. I have a relative who is an Airforce veteran and another relative who is a Navy veteran. Do I just get them to this page here or what? If I could do this I'd sell my m14x r1 on ebay for $900 and buy a new m14x r2 for $700. It's just I have no clue on how you would buy anything from the site.

goto the AAFES website, log in with their information find alienware laptops, then there is a link at the top that directs you to dells page, then you select what you want, customize it then it adds to you cart on AAFES site, dell site closes then you type in your information, relatives rank and military branch. then pay with CCd then bingo your all set.

It's awesome that Dell/Alienware does, and I believe you are correct. I think doing that might be against the "agenda" of the stereotypical Mac owner to openly support our military. Not all of them fall into the stereotype by any means, but there is a mindset that seems to follow a trend in thought processes in certain circles. "Birds of a feather" just like those that "flock together" here in this Alienware subculture.
