Today when I plugged my M14x into my 46" TV through HDMI, I happened to notice sound still came from the laptop's speakers and not the TV's. I went to check my sound devices, thinking all I'd have to do was change the default output from 'Speakers' to 'HDMI'. However, Speakers was the only option. Do our machines support sound through HDMI? I thought last time I hooked it up it worked, but I could be wrong. I'm running the latest nvidia driver - 285.62.

You might need to plug the audio cable (the green cable) from your TV to your laptop, because that what I do when I use the HDMI cable on my 32" TV.

Hmm... that sucks. My TV will only accept that type of audio input alongside VGA connections, and VGA doesn't look to great on it...

I'm not sure with your TV, but mine, I have to plug that Green Audio cable to the laptop for the audio to transfer to the TV, the different between HDMI and VGA is the resolution limit, the VGA is capped at 1366x768 while the HDMI can go over to 1080p.(in my case my TV only support up to 1080p). When I bought the TV, it also came with both that Green Audio cable, a VGA and a HDMI.

My audio goes over HDMI with no settings change at all.

Once you plugged the HDMI cable to both your computer and TV, right click on the speaker icon in your taskbar and select "Playing Peripherals" or something like that. Then you'll see two options, "Speakers" and something related to your TV. Right click on the TV thing and select "set as default reading device" or something like that.

I'm sorry I can't give you the exact words but my Windows is in French.

Tell me if it worked, it does for me.

That's what I was aiming to do. However, like I said in my original post, "Speakers" is the only option.

EDIT: Silly me. I went to reinstall the nvidia drivers incase something somehow broke. Turns out, I had never actually installed the HD Audio driver. Works like a charm now!
