Just wondering what your opinions are on the 14 compared to the 17. I just sold my second r3 17 today and am looking at either another one or the m14x. I considered an m11x but the exterior styling is fugly compared to the 14/17/18.

I dont own an M17 , but i have an asus G7 and i can confirm is huge!

The only advantage the m14 has is PORTABILITY

I just bought this M14 because i will have to travel soon!! And I am even considering that I may like to get the M11 R3 as i still have 7 days from th e store ans some more days from dell!

If you dont have a main system >> go for the bigger, if you have that, then stay with your m11, unless some one can confirm that the gaming performce are huge on the M14 compare to the m11 r2 or 3

I don't really understand what you want to say but anyway, m11x r3 will run the really recent games in low / mid and the recent but not so recent in mid / high. The 3DMark score in stock is 8500 if I remember correctly. The m14x is a really good compromise with perf and portability, It'll run recent games in high / ultra (with some games you'll have to disable AA or to set the res to 720p to get better FPS), I'll buy it for a school PC and I'll be my main PC, m11x is just too small and perf too low and m15x / m17x is just too heavy to take it with me everyday at school.
m14x will just be fine and it have a really good perfs.
    tldr:
    m11x: ++portability ++battery | -screen size -perfs
    m14x: +perfs +portability +battery
    m17x: ++perfs | -portability

If I was balling, I'd get a m14x. If the m14x had been out during the 30% aafes deal, I prolly would've gotten the m14x maxed out, honest.

    Whyd you sell your R3s?

Well as i have an Asus G73jh-A2 and I want something to travel with

When i went to the store they did not had the M11R3 so i just picked the
    M14x wish seems ok

But is not that light is heavy, i mean is not the kind of thing you carry on your pocket every day with you

So that is the reason I am considering in sending it back and swap to the M11 but not so sure jet I am studding and will make up my mind at the end of this week

Also if i swap i save 600 usd >> M11r3 loaded here is 1,350 usd with 2 years guaranty M14x loaded is 1950 usd

By the way, do you know if the grafic card on the m14 is sealed to the mother board? I mean do we have a chance to upgrade the grafic card in the future? I know M11 is sealed but what about the m14?

I bought the m14x but had to send it back due to some faults and don't want to reorder untill after my exams have finished. So I wanted to see the size comparison then I may just get the m17x instead.

Yes the graphic card is sealed but the 555gt isn't as bad as people say. And for the m14x there is no reason to max the specs, get the base config and just update the screen to 900p. The price will be ~$1275 and you'll get really good perfs. As you can see in the video the m11x is of course smaller but not a lot. The weight of the m11x r3 is 4.4lbs and the m14x is 6.45lbs so about ~30% heavier. I think the m14x is still portable, sure the m11x r3 is better in portability and battery life but the m14x have really good perfs, it have a good battery life and the portability is acceptable. I personnaly take it as my school PC and i'm not afraid about the weight.

Thanks nice video this will help me more lol

Well my system ended at 2k usd had no choice it was that or the the next was even more expensive because of the highest CPU wish i think is of not need

I am installing Portal 2 and will see how it runs on stock drivers

The reason i am considering swapping it for the m11r3 is because i already have the Asus G73jh-A2 but I will think it over these next coming days

When i bought it from the store they did not had the m11 r3 so i bought the m14 black, then i exchange it for the red one

Other thing i have 80GB SSD on the asus who has 2 disk and yes i can really see the difference in loading applications and booting compare to the m14

I dont want to buy an SDD now since my experience is that 80 gb is not enough and dont want to have to buy one of 160 for the time been

Do you think swapping the hard disk of the m14 with a high bird Momentous will do something more?

    cheers

There were a number of reasons why I sold both r3s . One big reason I fail to mention in many other if my posts was they never just hit the sweet spot like when i bought my Mbp 17 in late o9 (unibody , 3.06,128 ssd). The r2 felt sweet but with rumors of the r3 a month away I quickly returned it. It wasn't worth the cost for about to be outdated tech. R2 owners don't get in a fuss over that it's only my opinion that I dust think it was worth optioning out an r2 when the r3 could outdo it for half the price.

Soo.. my r3s just had little things that nagged at me. The 460 was a dated card. 3d.. Never used it once in 3 months it's just a gimmick to me. The 120hz screen was nice but paired with a gpu that could barely push past 60fps.. The 6970 was a monster card. Blew the 460 to bits in the games I play. Side by side though my 60 hz panel wasn't as bright and bothered me alot. The panel also had very slight deformations in the glass or plastic screen cover that was noticeable in reflections where it looked like a funny mirror. The soft touch finish is real nice but anyone has got to be kidding if they prefer it over the r2 aluminum or a MacBook pro. I feared to scratch them every time I used them.

It came down to accepting that I didn't need muscle or the fastest CPU. I'm not a bencher at all. It's easy to get caught up in tech stuff and thankfully I can at least afford to play. So looking to save sone cash and spending on other things I decided to spend much less and it narrowed it down (for now at least) , an m14x or a used r2.

Why don't you put your SSD on your M14x and remove the optical drive to put your base 500gb on it? Momentus will make your system faster but it's still really low compared to a SSD...
Check this review to see some bench.

You know you don't have to buy a new computer each time you want to run a different program. There's a little X in the top-right corner that closes your currently open window.

Lol.. Actually took me a few seconds to figure that out! There's two things that prevent me from buying another MacBook pro 17.. A USB port on the right side...and apples stupid mouse acceleration

This is funny when people say a laptop is heavy. I'm not sure how heavy the m17xR2 or the m18x is, but I can say that the R3 is the heaviest lappy I've ever touched, but not so heavy where I'd be deterred from buying it. And neither should you, unless you're shorter than I am, and even scrawnier than I look (I am 5'4", 135lbs, and lean but with a belly :)).

Therefore, either the 17x or 14x is fine, in terms of weight. I'd just get the one that can handle the games I'm playing. Like I said earlier, if the 14x had been out during the 30% deal, I would've gotten it (and now I've learned that I wouldn't have had to max it out, which makes it even a sweeter computer). Too bad I was past the return period though due to all the horrendous waiting I had for the replacement...

    Good luck to OP.
