i contacted dell last night and was told to hold off for a week if i want to get the best gpu possible. for one i don't trust anything a rep tells me unless i can see the facts or when i see others being told the same thing. a few of my friends where also told to wait a week also. has anyone else heard anything, or been given the same information?

if this were the case, dell would have ALOT of angry alienware owners. I highly doubt they wanna anger a lot of people......

If there is any truth in this, Dell have been extremely unfair and sneaky.

I highly doubt it so soon.

If they did this before I even get my laptop I would cancel and buy a different brand.

This makes 2 of us... If this rumor were true... I would send back that laptop with the quickness and never buy from dell again.. I dont think im the only one who would see it that way.

Seriously, this laptop is the bomb for the price. Good internals with a sexy external.

I would just send back the m14x I purchased and get the new one with the new video. No big deal.

You dont need to RANDY MARSH every time something doesn't go exactly as planned. WE MUST STOP NOTEBOOK PRODUCERS EVERYWHERE FROM SELLING NOTEBOOKS BEFORE EVERY VIDEO OPTION IS OUT!

the 555 gm seems like plenty of video card for me, but thats because I only play WoW anyway :)

seriously though I'll never buy Sony, not after that crap they pulled with the rootkit business.

I wouldnt be surprised as they did do that with the m17x. after a month or so the 6970 popped up. I just mailed mine back and got a 6970 version no biggie. They paid for return shipping and I just placed a new order and waited till it arrived and then sent my old one back. Lets see these 'other' manufacturers you guys are gonna run off to do that. I didnt think so.

Okay while they will almost certainly have a better revision down the road, perhaps as soon as 6-8 months, Dell is in the business of making money. If they had a better graphics card available, it would be a better revenue stream. It would only be in their interests to make it available ASAP. I will hold off on conspiracy theories, although I do remember feeling a slight sting when I saw the 2nd revision of my m11x.

Just checked... no internal documentation mentioning any other video options. Don't trust that sales rep.

6670 vs 555 (thread already exists in gaming sub-forums).

No real difference between the two cards. You might be able to overclock the card a little bit more but that's it.

04/26/2011 04:43:54PM Agent (Megan W): "ok :) you can send me the link if you would like so that we are on the same page"
    04/26/2011 04:44:26PM Chandler: "http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m14x/573482-another-gpu-option-m14x.html"

04/26/2011 04:46:19PM Agent (Megan W): "oh sorry about that- typo"
04/26/2011 04:46:50PM Chandler: "Oh so you mean no gpu information for the m14x?"
04/26/2011 04:47:11PM Agent (Megan W): "Marketing does not give us any information until the day of the release, if you would like I can email you if we do have any changes"
    04/26/2011 04:47:34PM Chandler: "Okay, that'd be great."
    04/26/2011 04:47:38PM Chandler: "Thanks"
04/26/2011 04:47:51PM Agent (Megan W): "your welcome! Thanks for that link : )"
04/26/2011 04:48:42PM Chandler: "No problem. Hope you don't mind but I might post this log on the thread so everyone can see the thing about reps only getting information on release day"
04/26/2011 04:48:59PM Chandler: "Might end alot of speculation and rumors there"
04/26/2011 04:49:09PM Agent (Megan W): "that would be great! It might stop rumors!"
    04/26/2011 04:49:35PM Chandler: "Alright, cool"
    04/26/2011 04:49:38PM Chandler: "Thanks again"
    04/26/2011 04:49:40PM Chandler: "Bye!"
04/26/2011 04:49:49PM Agent (Megan W): "your welcome! thanks for chatting with me today :)"

Alright, so it seems like reps only get info on release days, so I'm definitely not getting rumors from reps anymore. (Kind of ironic eh?)

LoL that chat session didn't prove or provide anything. Most reps don't know anything until the public does. Especially in India. There are some reps however that do. I talked to a rep in fall 2010 and he told me about the M14x.

I thought we already agreed that most reps don't know much. Why people keep contacting reps and expecting to talk to a tech-god?!?!

The reps usually help the common consumer... not us... because we hang out in this forum LOL.

I'm not saying the ATI card is better power/performance wise, I've just had a really bad experience with an Nvidia card (8400m series) that rendered my laptop pretty much useless for it's main purpose of audio streaming (I DJ). There was an entire class action lawsuit against Nvidia. So I'm left with a web-surfing laptop, and won't be getting an Nvidia anything anymore.
