Decided to sell my M14X. I'm just to used to MacBook trackpads and MacOSX, so I think I'm going back. I don't use a computer for much other than web browsing/ light gaming, but I do like nice computers so keep that in mind. It's a shame too, cause I realize you get more for your money with a Windows computer... but that's another story.

I bought the M14X and it hasn't been out of the box for 30 days yet.

Bought it for: $1389 (1 year warranty included) (not including S&H)
    Selling it for: $1150

    Am I crazy?

    Here are the specs:

Alienware M14X - Stealth Black with Soft Touch Finish
    Intel Core i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.9GHz Turbo Mode, 6M cache)
    6GB DDR3 at 1600MHz
    Alienware M14X 150W A/C Adapter
    14.0 High Def+ (900p/1600x900) with WLED backlight
1.5GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M using NVIDIA Optimus technology
    500GB 7200RPM SATA 3GB/s
    AlienFX Color, Mars Red
    Alienware Command Center Software, M14X
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
    DataSafe Local BackUp
    Vista PC Restore
    Hinge Up WLAN - BLACK
    Adobe Acrobat Reader
    Roxio Creator Starter
    Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner, DVD+-RW, CD-RW
Internal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio
    Intel Wireless-N WiFi Link 1000 a/g/n 1x2
    Internal Bluetooth 3.0

Talk me into keeping it. Talk me into selling it. Call me crazy, call me smart. I need some opinions here.

    Thanks :)

Force yourself to learn W7 and love it IMO.

Macs are just ...over-priced pieces of crap?

    :p

In all seriousness, the M14X is a beautiful machine. KEEP IT :)

When I think of Macs, I think of people who dress up in business suits just to have a coffee at Starbucks and browse the web on their Macs.

Or purposely walk with their Macs in hand while heading to their next class in order to show off they have a Mac instead of putting it in their laptop bag like everyone else.

I do too. But I'm a sucker for that trackpad and battery life. Not sure how much I can squeeze out of my AW, but it sure as [expletive] isn't 7 hours :(

No you're not crazy, in fact my spec is little bit higher than yours and also more expansive than yours, but if you compare M14x's performance with MacBook, I'd say that you crazy if u selling M14x to get a MacBook. :D

I have a MacBook Pro i5 15" and the 14x. I love them both. They are hardly pieces of crap. But what i look at is two things. I do feel that the Mac is more solid than the 14x and will probably outlast it by quite a bit. But performance wise, they are workhorses nothing more. If you do graphics, development and/or basic email and junk a mac is worth the extra money. If you want something that is a good casual computer with the added punch to play some good games, the 14x and the 11x are two great pieces of hardware.

Take it this way... I worked for apple for a number of years. They are still the best in my book but the 14x has really changed my opinion of PC laptops. So unless you are getting an i7 Macbook Pro with an SSD hold on to the 14x

    Edit: Takeabyte: Point taken..

Battery life? What has anyone squeezed out of their M14X on what settings?

EDIT: No intention of starting a flame war, but, well...it's an internet discussion of Mac vs. PC :p

    1. Macbook will have better battery life, stop trying to say "Oh well if you do ___ and ____ and ___ and pray to the Norse Gods of Battery Longevity and ...."
    2. If he likes MacOS better that's his choice
    3. The build quality and attention to detail on the M14x is not nearly as good as on the mac.
    4. OP: It's your money, your decision. $1100 is alot more useful to you than a laptop that you will never use.

Not to be rude, but why not call Dell and get a refund? Haggle enough and they'll do it even if you're past the 21 day mark. I just sent back my M15x that I've had for almost 4 1/2 months after some coercion (I really, really wanted a SB CPU but the recall was going on when I ordered my M15x) so I'm sure it won't be hard if it's done within 30 days.

If you need some help, then call this number and they'll take care of you:

    800-624-9897 x7283898

If you REALLY want to sell it, post it in the NBR Marketplace.

I'm sure someone who doesn't want to wait 1.5 weeks+ as well as benefit from a cheaper price will be happy to purchase it off you ;)

I called last week and spoke to Rashiid Mamalaframamri :p and he said there was no way to return it. I could always pull the "poor college student who needs to pay his bills" card.

My M15x was received today, so I'll have an answer for you pretty soon. I think 1-3 days though. That number I posted earlier gets you to their executive escalations department (aka the "I emailed Michael Dell" department), so they should budge. If they don't, compose a well written email, Google "Dell executive emails", and send them off. Within an hour or two you'll have an RMA number and a pre-paid shipping label in your email inbox.

It may seem extreme, but with Dell that's often the only way to get through to them, it my experience. :\

tell them how unhappy you are with the gaming performance when on battery, the sata 3 issues, and that the fan is too loud for you. their return policy is 21 days since they shipped the product, if you're within the 21 days, you should get your refund. i'm going to call tomorrow to try to return one ^_^

You've been having various problems with your laptop since you got it and tech support hasn't been able to help, so you'd "just like to return this thing" already.

The more over-dramatic, the better IMO. :)

SO...I called that number and extension and was told that I couldn't speak to anyone there unless I had been previously contacted... 8 Arab/Indian/Spanish speaking representatives and 45 minutes later, there was nothing anyone could do to help me... starting to get pissed. Any other advice before I sell this beast to someone for $1150? (and take a $250 loss?) :/

I easily filed for a return today with the EPP people. I'm still within 21 days and just gave the performance on battery excuse. Not that I was unhappy with the life of the laptop on battery, but the actual performance. Went without hiccup for the rest of the half hour call, and 30 mins later I had my shipping labels. If you're within 21 days, you are able to return it, Dell cannot argue that.

Just start off at the beginning instead of going straight to an extension. Even if you're not calling the EPP number, you shouldn't have any trouble :)

Wish this was the case with me. I was 2 days past the 21 day limit, and they were shockingly rigid. After fighting with 2 or 3 agents and one supervisor, they didn't budge. Mine was through the EPP returns people though, so I don't know.

Either way, Chase bank is handling it now :)

You've misunderstood. The OP bought the M14X but was more comfortable with his Mac. People are only telling him to return it to Dell as another option.
