I am having some issues on sub woofer. Sometimes I hear very crackling or distorted noise from woofer when I am playing music, especially high pitch sound. Is it normal? Because I am scared that one of the technician came on-site and damage the woofer.

Side note, last 2 weeks, my unit shuts down very randomly everyday though the usage is not even pass 1 hr mark. Ventilation is very good as I use it with cooling pad and normally the temperature is 50C and will not go beyond 70C with gaming. Later I reported to Dell and they replaced my mobo, still so far, there is no shutting down as yet. So I think it is mobo itself is faulty. Any bro encountering this problem could report to dell to get mobo replaced if the unit is under warranty.

I'd suggest your reinstall the RealTek Audio Driver, because it fix for me everytime it crackling, and for subwoofer I think if it is damage then you'll not hear anything coming from it, as like my last 3 subwoofer. and for the shut down randomly, is it you have it idling? Because last month my laptop also shut down (and BSOD) randomly, and that because of a pending HDD failure. If your laptop is still under the warranty then you will be able to ask for replacement at anytime (if the hardware got problem)

I reinstalled the realtek driver and no success. Usually cracking sound appears when I play the music 70% and above. I called up Dell a while ago, they asked me to plug in with earpiece and checked whether the cracking sound still have or not. There was no cracking sound at all when I plug in with earpiece, craystal clear with the volume 70%.

Shutting down randomly happens especially while I am doing something not very intesive such as writing report with no background programes running or while I am gaming. But anyway, in the first place, it shouldn't be happening during gaming since alienware is gaming machine :D

So basically, they replaced motherboard which comes up with A04 bios. When I upgraded to A05 bios, there is one message appear "this action can't be completed because the other programe is busy". This sort of message usually appeared when I first used windows XP. When I downgraded to A04 again, this message dissappeared.

I originally had a similar ? same ? issue with my m14x. In the end I tracked it down to the Sound Blaster XFi settings. I can't remember which one, but basically I just turned all the advanced sound options off in the SB driver panel and it fixed the "popping" for me.

    Worth a try.

Yep, it is in the mid-bottom of the laptop, not much compare to Desktop size counterpart but better than nothing at all, I wonder if the MBP/MBAir has one too?

Nah, it doesn't. Sound on Macs is pretty mediocre...

But that's so cool that it has a subwoofer... :D

It's kind of marketing sh** that they call it a subwoofer. It handles low-mids at best. But it definitely makes a difference. Warms the sound up considerably. You'll never hear me call these speakers tinny. Just don't expect sub frequencies out of it :p

I'm sorry for bringing up this old thread, but I can't find info ANYWHERE. My subwoofer in my M14x is loose. When the bottom panel is off, I can move it around with my finger (not touching the actual driver). Is it supposed to be like this or is it somehow secured? I had it replaced recently and now it vibrates at over 70% volume and ruins sound, and I think it wasn't loose before.

EDIT: Never mind. I found out it is loose. Mounts are missing. Sorry for the thread necro!
