    Hello all,

Just a new member with a problem on my hands:

OK so I play some games on my alienware m14x r1 and my CPU was overheating causing a slow drop in FPS, you know, the usual thing that happens.

Well, I fixed my CPU from going to 98C while in-game to only going to a max of 88 now. I think that should be fine because it is for others with the same model? I basically adjusted the processor management in the power options and put it to 78% as the max. This one person on youtube who I watch has done this and he games on reasonable temps with his alienware m14x r1 because of this.

Now my problem is my FPS goes to over 100 to 20 on some games in SECONDS. How can I fix this?

That seems to be due to thermal throttle. The real fix for this type of issues is to do a re-paste, clean the dust of the fans and use a cooling pad. I have also seen people who disable the speedstep to let the CPU run cooler.

Also, the throttle may be coming from the GPU. I'd check those temps as well.

    Ok
Ok, so I tried opening it before but now my mouse pad isn't working as well as my wifi card.. When I opened it I couldn't re-paste because I stripped a screw by accident on the heatsink. What do I do to fix this my broken wifi and mousepad? I put it back together though thankfully.

I have to check my temps again too.. will let you know the results.

It seems like you missed the WiFi antenna cables and touchpad cable. You'd need to re-do the assembly to check for those 2 things.

    Hi,

I just found out that there are several wifi drivers for my model, how can I tell which wifi card I have? This might fix the issue. Thanks.

    I fixed it!

All I had to do was press fn+ f3 and turned on the wifi and.. It worked!

    Thanks again all :)
