    Ok i am a laptop noob and i have a m14x laptop.
Now.... How long without a cooling pad can i continuously game?
Because this is a gaming laptop and when i run Rage or Black ops the Fans start blazing.
Does my battery performance at high performance have anything to do with it?
Or should i change it back to balanced if it does?

And with a cooling pad how long can i game?

Ok this is a two part question....
Is there a screen protector i can buy for the m14x? Or is that over the top?
Also can i buy those laptop screen wipes at walmart or would that be a bad idea?

    Anyways, thanks

Duration: 4-5 hours easily. I havent seen any spikes in temp over this period or any kind of artifact while gaming. My unit was not overheating and games run just great.

No. Battery has nothing to do with it. The cooling fan in Alienware M14x is quite loud. It runs fast to dissipate as much heat as it can quickly and effectively. Apart from noise, there is nothing worth bothering about.

If you do any CPU intensive task like gaming or some software work, CPU will tend to heat up and Fan will run at its top speed, which is quite large. so this fan DOES make LOT OF NOISE :D

Yes. there are numerous screen protectors available on sites like amazon and ebay. You can just browse through the selection there and choose whichever fits your requirement.

you can buy them as well but i guess repeated cleaning of screen will do leave some pretty bad scratches on screen over a period of time. They occur due to dust particles on screen. So if you want, go for a screen protector . Its a one time thing and does no damage to screen.

Since Nuaron already answer some, I'll add some more answers.

For without the cooler, I usually do it at school and because of Skyrim is my main game, I can only play up to 2-3hrs without fearing of the heat because I notice the temp without the cooler averagely at around 87C - 89C for the CPU and 77C - 79C for the GPU.

For me, since now my main game is Skyrim, and I continuously play like between 5hrs - 9hrs without problem, yet the temp is max averagely at between 75C - 80C for CPU and 65C - 67C for the GPU.

However it is also depend on your room environment, most of the time I game play, I usually have window open to allow more air to get in.

i played last 2 weekends for 12 hours straight. mix of sc 2 and skyrim both maxed. stock drivers, no repaste, 2 books for a cooler. i get 80C max for cpu and 70max gpu. I do have an i5 though. Don't notice any sort of lag except for 4v4 sc2 games with everyone at max supply.

Even with the fans blazing? What do you mean by 2 books for cooler?

I guess he's got the back propped up with 2 books to let the air flow underneath?

hey, i did that "book" thing just to lift up the back part a little bit... it does help... :D anyway, if you want to play continuously, play on with your cooling pad... if you're mobile and can't plug your laptop anywhere, i suggest you don't play at all... the battery will only last for as long as 1-2 hrs if playing demanding games.

I can confirm that the book trick works very well.
I've had my M14x for 4 months now, I have no cooling pad, just The Fellowship of the Ring to prop up the back. I play for 2-3 hours straight most of the time (Skyrim mostly and portal 2) and I haven't had any heat issues so far.

yeah it's just as they say i put 2 books on the left and right edges so that there is more space for the fan intake. But i think the i5 is runs alot cooler than i7's thus the temps. Im guessing that i can hit 60-70's with a good repaste+ a cooler. just speculation though it seems very probable.
