Ok for whatever odd reason I got an error to my post so here is what I had typed before the error LOL sorry.

    Hello All,

This is my first time posting here so be patient with me lol.

I have the first generation Alienware M14x. For the most part this laptop has been pretty awesome with gaming. The only issue I seem to be having is wireless connectivity. At home I am getting the wireless icon in the system tray with the exclamation sign telling me I cannot access the internet. I have tried reinstalling drivers, doing system restores, disconnecting and reconnecting to the network, and nothing has worked. This happens every once in a while for some odd reason. Yet, when I bring the laptop to work with me the wireless works fine and doesn't give me the little yellow exclamation point icon. I have multiple laptops and have figured that it is not my wireless router or my service at home that is the issue. My other laptops never seem to have the same wireless connectivity issue at all. I am assuming that if I can connect at work fine with no issues then it can't be my wireless card correct? It has to be some sort of software issue maybe? Anyone out there run into the same issue or have some insight into how to fix this? I build/work on computers a lot so this is really throwing me all out of sync with how to take care of this issue.

Thanks to anyone who can help/reply to this post :)

Grimwulf, i am having the same problem. Like one week ago my alienware m14x started to disconnect from my wifi, showing some "Limited access" message at the wifi connection. After that, I just unplug/plug my router cables, and it starts working again, but just for 20-30 minutes, and it disconnect again. This keeps happenning to me, anyone have any solution that i can try? Just to remember, there`s like five other notebooks in the house i live, all of them of different brands, but just in mine keeps happening this.

I am using the Intel WiFi Link 1000 B/G/N wireless nic on my M14x. The limited access icon drives me nuts at home. I find it odd that at work I don't seem to have that issue.

    i had the same problem.

install newest intel drivers and make sure to go to alienfusion power settings and change wireless to maximum performance. i read about issues with power savings and wireless cards dropping from the network

i used to not be able to use my school network except while plugged in due to these disconnect cycles. now i am on the wireless all the time without any problems

Well the drivers are up to date, and the alienware fusion settings are set to maximum performance already. Still no change and still no internet access :(

Not sure how to get this to work. I'd rather not switch out the wireless cards on this. Weird thing is I used a wireless adapter as well and still had the limited access for internet.

Um, I know that this forum is a bit outdated, but I literally JUST found this out not 30 seconds ago, as I was browsing these forums. Go to the Alienware Command center and click on AlienFusion. Then go into the advanced settings. What does it say when you click on "Wireless Adapter settings"? Mine said Maximum performance when plugged in BUT it said "Maximum Power Saving" when using the battery. And I JUST realized that I was getting these issues when my laptop got unplugged. So check that out if you are using your laptop unplugged at home. It will save a lot of time. You know, instead of constantly getting the troubleshooter to reset your wireless adapter so it continues working for another 10 minutes.

Hope I helped someone out! :D

If anyone sees this thread and is having this problem, here's a possible solution:

Go into Device Manager and uninstall the driver for the wireless card. Then reboot, and let Windows rediscover the card and reinstall the driver.

    Problem solved!

I've got the Wireless N 2230 running under Win7 x64 and have had this problem since I got the laptop over a year ago, and this solved it. I'd like someone to explain WHY this works! But it does, and it did for me!
