Hey guys I have an Alienware M14x and I have had it for about 3 years. I decided I wanted to clean up the computer a bit and get it running as fast as possible. Are there any utilities (CCleaner, Glary Utilities, etc) that you guys recommend for cleaning up the laptop? What is the best way to disable running processes in msconfig?

Any other help on getting this laptop in tip top shape is greatly appreciated!

CCleaner is a nice tool. The most important thing it does it clearing your cache. It also helps removing some system dump files and other temporary files saving up some room. For the rest you don't need any cleaning/optimization program. Most of those Utility programs "Optimize" your pc by doing things you actually don't want. Some of those programs have also so called problem solvers which at first run find thousands of problems on any pc. So it's all crap if you ask me.

Have a nice Internet secuirity program with a firewall and an anti spyware (personally I have been using Kaspersky Internet Security for years, been very satisfied), scanning your pc now and then. Also clearing your internet cache often also helps avoiding most of the viruses/adware etc.

And you don't need anything else trust me.

Thanks for the help! I am using Avast and Malwarebytes. As far as optimizing startup processes in msconfig, what is the best way to do that?

Take a look at Black Viper. There is a lot of information about optimizing your system.

    Always make backups.

CCleaner is a very useful tool. You can also try IOLO's System Mechanics. It also has an antivirus.
