Hello everyone, I have looked online and can not find any "flat" laptop cooling pads/fans for my alienware m14x. There is the Targus HD3 gaming pad on amazon but its for 17" laptops. Can anyone recommend me some flat cooling pads? I cant get used to the slanted ones.
And do you think the Targus HD3 would matter since its big?

Just got the cooler master U2 to replace my old Zaman 1000. It says its for 17' but fits the M14x perfectly and has 2 moveable fans. Only 12 Quid off of Amazon too

I use a Targus Chill Mat (Non-HD3) and its flat and sized for 15" laptops. What I like most is its easy to pop off the rubber feet, get access to the four screws, and flip one of the fans, so each of the 2 fans keep the air flowing in sync with the M14x's fans.

Has anybody heard about those Targus HeatDefense pads?
They are crystals that cool in a pad. They turn to liquid.
The Thermapack? -
I was looking for an alternative to a usb fan cooling pad and i saw this on youtube.
ThermaPAK Laptop Cooling System Review - YouTube
Its called a thermapak and it uses crystals to cool the laptop.
I was wondering if you guys would recommend this for the m14x? -
Amazon.com: Targus PA248U5 Laptop Chill Mat (Black): Electronics
Above is a link for the model I use. The ThermaPak is interesting. I would definitely look into it for a unibody design laptop. I would fear restricting the airflow of the fans on the bottom of the m14x. If you buy it let us know. -
It works great!
My laptop is blowing out cool air after playing BF 3 for 3 hours! -

I have this cooler myself the m14x BARLEY fits on the cooler, it's very nearly too small. I have no complaints about it does the job, only nitpicky thing is that theres a blue LED that is stupid bright its like a laser but it can be covered. -
I recently got a U2, have yet to try it out much. The I don't have many high end games to test with, so I just used Tribes: Ascend and Starcraft 2.
Anyways, when my computer was just stock, nothing done to it. I was getting upwards to 97c.
After I proped up the back with 2 dice, I got about a ~2c decrease in temp. So 95c~.
I did a thermal pasting after a couple months (HOLY GOD DELL, if I had pictures of what their thermal pasting looked like I'd post it. It was pretty much everywhere besides the CPU/GPU and next to nothing on the gpu in chunks.) Using Arctic Silver 5 I got around 85c~ on Ultra settings with those games.
With the U2 + Thermal pasting, my GPU is running at 65c and my CPU is running about the same as before. It might be the fan placement isn't where it should be for hitting the CPU but I sow a ~2-4c temp drop on my GPU after about an hour of playing Tribes on Ultra. I'll post more later and experiment with fan placements ^^. -

Thanks for the quick reply! -
One thing I will mention about the U2, every now and then take the fans off and clean the grill, and dust underneath where the U2 sits. I've only had my U2 for two or three weeks now but I took the fans off to take a look at them and noticed a whole bunch of dust stuck to the underside of the grill there. It's easy to forget about it, out of sight out of mind and all that. But if you dust underneath your cooler, and clean that grill and the fans occasionally, that's a whole bunch of dust that won't be blown into your laptop!
And for anyone who is worried about the angle of the U2 not being flat, I was concerned about it not being flat and originally wanted a flat cooler, but I went ahead and gave the U2 a shot and actually prefer the angle that it's at when it's on the cooler. It really isn't an extreme angle, and it doesn't take any adjustment at all when it comes to typing or viewing on it. The only possible problem I could foresee is that if you already had a high desk or have a real low chair. For me, it's perfect.
