A01, you'll get the most of your laptop but because there is no GPU downclock on battery but without this, it would drain your battery in less than 30mins, loud fan noise but may help with the cooling.

A03, this version fix with having the GPU to downclock when using battery to save battery life.

A04, this one fix nothing but to add the compatibility with the current Sandy Bridge CPU.

A05, this one fix the fan noise, some say it increase the heat but some doesnt, and for me it doesnt seem to increase any heat except for the notice of fan noise is being reduce.

As for myself I use a custom/modded BIOS called Custom/Modded VBIOS, nothing different except for its Voltage unlock for the GPU so then I can OC more than the stocked version allow, but this would also void the warranty if anything happen, but I think since the reputation of this laptop - Hot, so I can have that disguise as normal BIOS because in the BIOS screen, it look exactly like the Dell's release.

    Not sure for A02 though.

I may switch to A03. I have had increased temps since I went to A05 and I realized that I'd much rather have a blasting fan than a melting one.

The BEST temps for CPU is 80's although 90's (even or low 90's) is common for CPU. GPU is typically 60-70. This is all on A05 I mean. I was getting into the 90's on GPU so I switched back to A03 earlier today and Im getting a repaste over winter vacation

There many, but here is one of the few well known:

    OpenHardwareMonitor - CPU/GPU/HDD Temp Monitor
    HWMonitor CPU/GPU/HDD Temp Monitor
Real Temp - Mainly CPU temp monitor and minor GPU temp monitor
Core Temp - CPU temp Monitor only.

For me personally I use OpenHardwareMonitor because it allow me to all pin those hardware shown in the program as Windows gadget, and Real Temp is for temp alert should it reach the alarming point (you can set it manually). As for CPUZ and GPUZ, it is not a temp monitor program, instead it is a program where it show you information about the CPU or the GPU such as the BIOS version for example.

The safe temp is anything below 99C, the overheat shutdown point is 100C, so my rule of thumb for safety temperature point is 95C or lower because if it reach 95C+ you'll experience throttling due to high temp.

Can anybody provide a stock Dell A06 BIOS? I have lost the capability to drive my 2560x1600 30" external display via mini display port after flashing to stock Dell A08, and going back to stock Dell A05 or any of the custom unlocked BIOS's (01, 03, 05, 08) have not helped.

Since the display worked with the stock Dell A06 BIOS, I'd be much obliged if someone could share it. Sadly, Dell does not have a download for this BIOS that my system originally shipped with.

I'd say A06. It's the only one that seems to be able to run 2560x1600 30" display using the nVIDIA GPU. All other BIOS's fail in this. Please correct me if I am wrong!

It supports dual link dvi output over the mini display port to drive resolutions up to 2560x1600.

All those folks with the A06 - any of you got a way to get a copy of your BIOS over to me?

I believe you can just download any of the BIOS revisions off Dell's site. You can downgrade using the installers they give.

If mimarsinan can find the A06 BIOS from Dell Driver and Download website, I dont think he would create this thread asking for one.

Any folks here who have unlocked previous BIOS'es?

Did you use a BIOS installer for this or were you able to dump an existing BIOS?

If you were able to dump an existing BIOS, please show us how, so we can get the A06 BIOS going around again.

    Thanks!

A gracious soul at Dell technical support has made BIOS A07 available at:

Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]

I can confirm that this BIOS DOES DRIVE the 2560x1600 30" display when used in conjunction with a mini display port to dual link DVI adapter (such as the one provided by Apple).

Thank you Adolfo Escalante! You have restored my system to operational order. It is people like you who make all the difference at giant companies like Dell.

    Once again, thank you.
