I like Alienware for its design and performance. I also like Macs. Thing is, a high res MacBook Pro screen on the 15 inch is 1680x1050. The high res M14X is 1600x900. I believe the two laptops each come with a similar midrange GPU. So, assuming Apple doesn't retina up the new MBPS, wouldn't you think that the performance would be largely the same?

The performance would be insanely different, you're comparing to different laptops, one is a dedicated gaming laptop and the other is a flash smooth user friendly laptop. The GPU was just updated in the m14x while the macbook is still using a 6970, which is not terrible but with the cooling system in the Mac's really reduces its useability

I believe he's talking about the MacBook Pro refresh that's coming out shortly.

I wish they go back to Nvidia cards but they really need to fix the windows drivers for their hard drives.

SSD set to IDE is horrible!

Yeah I was referring to the performance of the rumour mill MacBook Pro that I'm guessing is going to use Kepler (640m vs 650m). The resolutions are almost the same and would most likely have very similar GPUs. Minus the extra price and lack of lighting, I think the upcoming 15" Pro would be just as good and better than the M14X for general use and similar for gaming performance.

It would be nice and it will game but the HD speed is just not there.

In Windows boot camp, default drivers for the HD will be IDE. There's no way to set it AHCI since technically there's no bios.

SSD on IDE = crap speeds

However, it's been almost a year since I had a MacBook but I don't think it's ever been resolved.

You can expect Alienware owners to insist that Alienware is much better than anything Apple sells. While this is true to an Alienware fan, you will get an opposing opinion from Mac fans.

Here's a potentially more objective forum for this discussion: What Notebook Should I Buy?

Just be aware that there are lots of jealous haters that have never owned an Alienware before and they'll present plenty of opinions as though they are facts. You can take it all with a grain of salt.
