I have an Alienware 14 with a Geforce 765m and all of a sudden the screen goes black right after the windows logo. If I boot up in safe mode and disable it and run on the intel GPU then everything is fine. I also tried connecting an external monitor through the HDMI port and got no signal. I am assuming that the GPU is just shot but what confuses me is that the 765 still shows up in device manager and I can alter the drivers like it is working fine. Has anyone else had this problem before?

Try an AlienRespwn. If the issue remains after that then you may need a motherboard replacement (motherboard has the GPU embedded).

I have an Alienware 14 and familiar to this problem, especially if you close the laptop after you see the black screen and open it after a few moments and the welcome screen appears.

I don’t know the cause of it - hadn’t the timeless ambition to find out - but after a clean install this problem will be over.
