Hi guys! How much better is the GTX 765M to the 650m? Is the full HD screen worth the upgrade? Ive done a google and theres not that much info on the 765m and was wondering if its strong enough to game at full HD. cheers!!

Is it possible to "haggle" with any reps online and get a 8gb of ram, 765m, 1080p screen and i7-4800 without having to spend the extra money on extras or are you strictly limited by their 5 "brackets" online and being forced to get RAM and blu ray upgrades along with a better processor?

Edit: I mean over the phone, not online.

You can always haggle over the phone, but to be honest it all depends on what rep you end up with. I was able to get a good deal on one of the older alienware's because I talked with the Dell rep that specializes on military discounts. I'm still waiting on more reviews on the new AW 14 before I decide on which machine to buy. Anyways GL

That's a good question Miguel, I guess they just want you to choose from the pre-configured system with minimal configuration options. Also it's always best to call them so you can try to get a cheaper discount, if your a student or military I'd probably mention that. Military would be like US military, I dont know if they offer other military discount. You can probably get $2800 I'd say

LOL the terrorist discount made me giggle no joke

Yep the EDD is 7/15 on mine too but from buying Alienwares in the past, their EDD is just an estimate and usually it ships a week earlier so it might ship before the 4th of July.

Btw, here is a side by side picture of the display of the new AW 14 and M14x R2. Taken from Alienware facebook page and used snipping tool for the side by side. Enjoy

The new 1080p display of the new AW 14 is definitely more vivid and colorful and has no glare w/ better viewing angle.

On m14x which windows 8 do we get
cos the options there only say Windows 8 on both

& if the can have a raid 0 option
    why cant they give a option of a 500 SSD (sata 6) + 750gb (7200rpm)
    to add more storage

RAIDing a SSD with an HDD would be a waste of an SSD as the SSD would have to wait for the HDD while copying.

What i meant was have a option of 2 hard drives
    a 500 SSD (sata 6) AND 750gb (7200rpm)
    not in in Raid 0

    so we have more Storage

one more thing I want to ask is
    DDR4 RAM
    Crucial.com - Crucial DDR4 coming soon!

will we be able to upgade them in Alienware laptops
& will it make a differnce in gaming

    Thank so much

Ordered on the 20th, EDD is the 17th. Went with the upgraded screen and gtx765m.
Still torn about possibly getting the razer blade 14, but a poor screen would really bug me. I hope the alienware 14 isnt THAT large and heavy. It is still small enough to be portable right?

You should be able to choose Windows 7 too, if you can't please link the page and I'll look into it. Anyway, here's a few differences between Windows 8 versions:

The 64-bit version of Windows 8 Pro supports up to 512 GB of RAM while the 64-bit version of Windows 8 (standard) supports up to 128 GB.

Windows 8 Pro supports a maximum of 2 physical CPUs and the standard version of Windows 8 just one. In total, up to 256 logical processors are supported in 64-bit versions of Windows 8.

You can have a 2xSSD RAID 0 + 750gb HDD. The optical drive in the new Alienware 14 can be replaced for a hard drive using a caddy, you get 1 mSATA + 2 SATA ports.

    Dimensions & Starting weight
Height: Front: 1.579 in (40.12 mm) Rear: 1.642 in (41.70 mm)
    Depth: 10.171 in (258.35 mm)
    Width: 13.314 in (334.98 mm)
Starting at weight with optional SSD: 6.116 lbs. (2.774 Kg.)

I am not sure if this needs its own thread but I had difficulty responding in the preorder thread, so here I go:
I am looking to purchase the Alienware 14 and am wondering about how necessary it is to upgrade the video card and the hard drive. What I would like to understand is how much of an increase in performance will I see if I upgrade from the GT 750M to the GTX 765M.
I also would like to know how important it is to upgrade from the regular HDD (750GB SATA 3Gb/s (7200RPM)) to the 750GB SATA 3Gb/s (7,200 RPM) + 64GB mSATA SSD Caching.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Oh I will use this laptop for business (MS Office Suites) and gaming (WoW, Marvel Heroes, Diablo3, Starcraft2 and the like).

About the question with the nvidia card you will have a better performance with the GTX765M, a more fluid game and in general better results in FPS, in my opinion it worth it to do the upgradre (along with the 1080p display...)

Now about the disk its a little more complicated, the SSD its intended to be used to install the O.S and some programs on it to get better boot time, and open faster the programs.... if you have the money and want faster times in booting an opening programs well maybe could be a good decision, if you are ok with actual hard drives and dont have problem to take advantage of the mSSD speed dont upgrade, instead upgrade your graphics card and display, you can buy a mSSD later :p, the other two you cant

I agree with the other answer, the GTX765M will be much better for gaming. As for the hard drive, you would be better off leaving the default and then buying a SSD on your own and going to a full SSD rather than just a hard drive with ssd cache.

The ssd will do everything much quicker, from boot to opening files.

Last week in June. Once a year at work each employee gets a large discount to buy a computer so I jumped in. Depending on screen It may be short lived. My EDD was the 24th of July.

My order status page has changed but its funny how it shows the information...

I know its in spanish but its pretty the same...

the curious thing its that in status it still say "In production" (besides below it says shipped: jul/11)

and other thing its that in the "timeline" instead of say shipped the "production" repeats 2 times o_O, weird.... never happen this to me before, with my m15x, or m14xR1 never happen this bug? but lets see how much take to get in here, in México we dont have the next day delivery :(, its a standard shipping.... for all

That's it's a little racist ¬¬ besides nothing related, the box come from, China? And then goes to US... Kentucky if I remember good... And then come to the border... And then to my house...

He is not being racist or pinning a specific country down because it is a fact that 2 of the most dangerous drug cartels are in Mexico.

    1.) Sinaloa Cartel
    2.) Los Zetas Cartel

China to a port in Mexico, then to Texas, then if you live in the Midwest or Eastern US, it goes to the sorting facility in Tennessee, and finally to your home. If you chose 'next day shipping' it should go straight from Texas to the nearest FedEx facility and then to you.

Well yes yes, I can't deny that, but I highly doubt there are a relation about this, in fact in Mexico City I'm very far about that "red area", its very quiet in here about the drug cartels, besides in Sinaloa and almost all the border line always the army and the cartels are in a continuos fight, here is very quiet, but thats another history :p

The other 2 AW I have always from China to Kentucky... (at least thats the information I have, KUEHNE NAGEL its who gave this info, and I have to say its pretty poor about providing info), unfortuanely we dont have "next day shipping" here in México, its a standard option, the first time the delivery made it "estafeta" (well known in here) the second one made it KUEHNE NAGEL, I dont know who or what are they :p, I only remember them when I buy a dell laptop
