Does anyone know the model(s) of the 256 GB mSata?
-
Hi guys! How much better is the GTX 765M to the 650m? Is the full HD screen worth the upgrade? Ive done a google and theres not that much info on the 765m and was wondering if its strong enough to game at full HD. cheers!!
-
The 765m is exceptional on 1080p, how do I know you ask? Well currently I'm using the 660m on a 1080p external monitor and it runs everything excellent on high to medium settings. Comparing the 660m to the 765m, it's like a ~30% improvement from what people are saying. Here are links to both GPUs

Thanks for the reply!!! Wow that is a big improvement!! Those links were really helpful. Thanks
-
current config I am looking at is upgrading the stock one to 765m and 1080p, and reusing the 240GB Agility 3 I have in my m11x, along with their sleeve for it. any other advice?
-
Hey,
I just ordered a M14x with just a upgraded display, how much difference is there between the two graphics card? Worth the upgrade? -
-
Is it possible to "haggle" with any reps online and get a 8gb of ram, 765m, 1080p screen and i7-4800 without having to spend the extra money on extras or are you strictly limited by their 5 "brackets" online and being forced to get RAM and blu ray upgrades along with a better processor?
Edit: I mean over the phone, not online. -
You can always haggle over the phone, but to be honest it all depends on what rep you end up with. I was able to get a good deal on one of the older alienware's because I talked with the Dell rep that specializes on military discounts. I'm still waiting on more reviews on the new AW 14 before I decide on which machine to buy. Anyways GL

That's a good question Miguel, I guess they just want you to choose from the pre-configured system with minimal configuration options. Also it's always best to call them so you can try to get a cheaper discount, if your a student or military I'd probably mention that. Military would be like US military, I dont know if they offer other military discount. You can probably get $2800 I'd say
-
no terrorist discount? i was trying to use my student or employee discount and cant because i cant configure that system the way its listed there.. Also does the July 15 date is that a real date? or it will be sooner than that?
I called them up got a $300 discount + 200 gift card.. ordered =) Cancelling my razer order now..
Also how come no one is taking about the 3 ssd option on this laptops? with raid 0 support? dell doesnt even list it as an available option

LOL the terrorist discount made me giggle no joke
Yep the EDD is 7/15 on mine too but from buying Alienwares in the past, their EDD is just an estimate and usually it ships a week earlier so it might ship before the 4th of July. -
If they are in production i think we will have them before the 4th. Maybe even late next week. -
Btw, here is a side by side picture of the display of the new AW 14 and M14x R2. Taken from Alienware facebook page and used snipping tool for the side by side. Enjoy
The new 1080p display of the new AW 14 is definitely more vivid and colorful and has no glare w/ better viewing angle.

So i found the same laptop i was trying to order for $2800 called dell and they said the only thing they can do is cancel my order wait 3 days to get that money in my credit card and then place the order :s SUCKS =(
-
Ordered M14 on June 11, in-production since the 18.
-
On m14x which windows 8 do we get
cos the options there only say Windows 8 on both
& if the can have a raid 0 option
why cant they give a option of a 500 SSD (sata 6) + 750gb (7200rpm)
to add more storage -
-
a 500 SSD (sata 6) AND 750gb (7200rpm)
not in in Raid 0
so we have more Storage
one more thing I want to ask is
DDR4 RAM
Crucial.com - Crucial DDR4 coming soon!
will we be able to upgade them in Alienware laptops
& will it make a differnce in gaming
Thank so much -
I ordered windows 7 on mine. I live in Canada and ordered from canadian dell website.
-
Ordered mine today. The EDD is Jul 23.
-
Ordered on the 20th, EDD is the 17th. Went with the upgraded screen and gtx765m.
Still torn about possibly getting the razer blade 14, but a poor screen would really bug me. I hope the alienware 14 isnt THAT large and heavy. It is still small enough to be portable right? -
The 64-bit version of Windows 8 Pro supports up to 512 GB of RAM while the 64-bit version of Windows 8 (standard) supports up to 128 GB.
Windows 8 Pro supports a maximum of 2 physical CPUs and the standard version of Windows 8 just one. In total, up to 256 logical processors are supported in 64-bit versions of Windows 8.

"We also support up to four hard drives in this system..." Hands on with the Alienware 14 Haswell laptop - YouTube
Is that a mistake, or is that true? Four SSD's in a 14" laptop? Does not seem right. -
Mistake, only 3. Main drive, CD drive, msata.

I am not sure if this needs its own thread but I had difficulty responding in the preorder thread, so here I go:
I am looking to purchase the Alienware 14 and am wondering about how necessary it is to upgrade the video card and the hard drive. What I would like to understand is how much of an increase in performance will I see if I upgrade from the GT 750M to the GTX 765M.
I also would like to know how important it is to upgrade from the regular HDD (750GB SATA 3Gb/s (7200RPM)) to the 750GB SATA 3Gb/s (7,200 RPM) + 64GB mSATA SSD Caching.
Thanks for any advice you can provide.
Oh I will use this laptop for business (MS Office Suites) and gaming (WoW, Marvel Heroes, Diablo3, Starcraft2 and the like). -
Just placed my order! EDD is 24 July.I am hoping it will be in by 19 though
-
About the question with the nvidia card you will have a better performance with the GTX765M, a more fluid game and in general better results in FPS, in my opinion it worth it to do the upgradre (along with the 1080p display...)
Now about the disk its a little more complicated, the SSD its intended to be used to install the O.S and some programs on it to get better boot time, and open faster the programs.... if you have the money and want faster times in booting an opening programs well maybe could be a good decision, if you are ok with actual hard drives and dont have problem to take advantage of the mSSD speed dont upgrade, instead upgrade your graphics card and display, you can buy a mSSD later , the other two you cant -
The ssd will do everything much quicker, from boot to opening files. -
System shipped and will be here Friday!!!
-
When did you order and what was your EDD?
-
Last week in June. Once a year at work each employee gets a large discount to buy a computer so I jumped in. Depending on screen It may be short lived. My EDD was the 24th of July.
-
My order status page has changed but its funny how it shows the information...
I know its in spanish but its pretty the same...
the curious thing its that in status it still say "In production" (besides below it says shipped: jul/11)
and other thing its that in the "timeline" instead of say shipped the "production" repeats 2 times , weird.... never happen this to me before, with my m15x, or m14xR1 never happen this bug? but lets see how much take to get in here, in México we dont have the next day delivery , its a standard shipping.... for all

He is not being racist or pinning a specific country down because it is a fact that 2 of the most dangerous drug cartels are in Mexico.
1.) Sinaloa Cartel
2.) Los Zetas Cartel -

System is here. Did a Unboxing and preview which is uploading as we speak! One word the system is impressive. IPS 1080p screen is matte finish. Its impressive just for the display.
