I tried to connect the HDMI cable from my alienware14, but the sound came out of the laptop instead of TV. I've already went through playback devices thing and ticked on "show disabled devices", but still doesn't work. It happened since I plugged out my headset out of the audiojack. halp :C

Go to "Sound" in control panel (make sure on the control panel it says on the right upper corner "view by: large icons" so you can find it easier). Or simply go to start menu or metro menu(win 8) and type sound. You should see the gray speaker icon, click on it.

A window will open, make sure you are on the tab "Playback".
While you are connected with HDMI you will see beside your own default (realtek) speakers the HDMI option now. click on it and set it to default ()below you have the button to set it to default).

Your computer will then prioritize the sound through HDMI when HDMI is plugged in. When plugged out, since HDMI won't be an option anymore your default speakers will be again set to default.

    Hope this helps

    Then there are 3 possibilities:
    1. The cable has an error (probably not likely)
    2. Your tv has an error on that very hdmi input slot (you have to try other devices on the same slot or try plugging laptop to other hdmi port(s) if there is)
    3. The problem lies on your pc. a couple of things that can cause it though in this case: an hardware issue on the hdmi port/ graphcis card.
    - It also can be a driver problem, so try installing latest nvidia driver (In case you wonder why the GPU needs to be updated, the sound passes
through your GPU, so the nvidia driver includes an HD audio driver). Alo try updating your soundcard driver, probably not likely, but you can try link
    is here: Realtek
The servers on that link are not working well, try until you find one that is working. Don't forget to choose correct Operating system
    - If non of these work try checking device manager, and see if you see anything popping up under "audio inputs and outputs" when you plug in the hdmi

For the rest I'm not sure, it can be anything, a 3rd party program causing conflicts, a virus on your pc, update on windows that made it bad, ...
