    Hello,
I'm on the market for a 14inch gaming laptop and my options are the alienware 14 or the asus g46vw.
I'm already the happy owner of an alienware 17 and I'm thinking of going with the alienware 14 =)
My main concern is every review I see says that it overheats and the fans are extremely loud. Is it really that loud ?

    Thannks in advanced.

Mine only gets loud when playing an intensive game like bf.. The fan kicks on high, which is understandable. I dont have any overheating issues. I've played many hours of bf at a time without issue.

Make sure you always have the vents / fans clean and make it a habit to inspect them every month and clean as necessary. Buy the metro vac and have unlimited air to clean out all machines. Pick up some quality thermal paste like gelid extreme and slap that over the CPU and GPU. Lastly get a notebook cooler not to keep the notebook cool ;). Instead to pre-filter the air before it hits the primary fans that way you can have less dust build up inside the machine and go with longer inspection intervals. This applies to all gaming laptops for all sizes.

Mine does not overheat at all. I use a custom Hwinfo fan profile which is more aggressive than the stock one, overclocked and overvolted Gpu, It can get loud, personally it doesn't bother me and besides, the sound from the games I play will drawn the noise.

Or could also be referring to the old revisions. The new AW14 has a huge air intake on the bottom which helps a lot to prevent overheating.

Naaah, I was referring to the older models. 14x R1 and R2. There has only been one revision of the Alienware 14 and it hasn't had any issues with overheating. The above mentioned behavior (loud fans) is common only on demanding games and it is indeed to avoid overheating. So there should be no issues.
