    Hi,

I am new to the computer series.
So I followed the threads I could find here to install a SSD into my computer.
I then changed the BIOS to Ahci and proceeded to use the Windows disk that came with the system.

Once the system was all loaded up, I went to insert the AlienRespawn recovery disks I made on the original HDD and AutoPlay pops up with open to view files.

Nothing happens automatically? I am trying to get back all of the Factory settings on the new drive. Did I miss a step or do something wrong?

    Thanks

I did not receive my m14x yet but probably the same , you must press F12 during bios screen and change the boot driver in order.

I did that and booted through the DVD drive with the respawn disk inserted. It appeared to run through its cycle, but I do not have any of the alien fx programs or stuff that came with the factory settings.

I must still be missing a step?

You sure that is alienrespawn disk or just Win7 Disk + m14x Driver disk?

Hopefully you did not format your original HDD yet , you can back up from your HDD , just run it normally and go to alienrespawn software and back it up , make a disk image or back it up to usb.

    *edit*
After some more digging, I believe I have everything figured out. Thanks for the help.

No I still have the original HDD. Ok Here is everything I did in order and maybe you can help me fill in the blanks.

1)Got computer brand new, create alienrespawn restore disks (2 disks).
2)Installed a few programs and made some files, create windows file backup disks (3 disks, I believe it backed up one of my games)
    3) installed SSD and ran W7 disk that was shipped in alienware packaging.
I believe this is a clean windows and nothing else seemed to be there but the operating system.
    4) Listened to your advice and hit f12 during boot to boot from DVD drive. Here I believe alien respawn placed files on my SSD because I saw the recovery partition there.
    5) Took another post advice and downloaded Alienrespawn.exe from dell website.
6)ran that and here I am now.

I am mainly trying to recover alien fx, but the entire out of box persona as well.
Are the drivers included in alien respawn?
It appears I am missing those as well.

    Sorry for the text wall.

at 3) you don't need to run W7 disk , because alienrespawn's backup is the OS itself , maybe the disk you made are corrupted? It suppose to auto run , how about get a 16gb USB and back it up again.

As alienrespawn they suppose to installed in your brand new machine.

For Alien FX , I don't see there is a Command Center software at dell site , maybe you can find it from your drivers disk.

you do not need to do fresh install of windows 7 in order to restore to factory setting. just pop in recovery disc, reboot into the disc and follow steps.

But if that doesnt work for some reason and you end up with fresh install, worry not. Some users have posted links to restore alienware look and feel. follow them.

    1) Alienware command center

    2) Alienware OSD application ( for using Fn keyboard shortcuts)

Thanks all for the help. I didnt realize you did not need the W7 disk. But I was able to restore all of the feel back to the machine.
