I had a cup next to me, I'm usually very careful, but tipped the coffee and it splashed a bit on my keyboard and palm rest.

Nothing Extreme. Immediately shut off the computer. Used a little duster spray to spray it out and electronic wipes to clean under the keyboard base.

I let it sit for about 20min before turning it on again. Everything seems fine.

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD DO? I can to walgreens and get some more duster to spray out any remaining liquid etc...?

Does opening it up make sense? How compartmentalized is the Alienware m14x? Would the CPU and mobo be safe because they are protected by multiple layers?

I do have a 2 year accidental warranty coverage still active.

Please let me know! Just happened about 20min ago and using it right now, but would like to fix anything before it completely dries!!!!

Personally, I would try to open it up and let it sit for a couple days [maybe just take out keyboard, and remove the bottom HDD and RAM plates]. I would remove the battery also and then hold down the power button for a few seconds to drain all the power.

There could still be a few drops of liquid in there just waiting to hit a circuit and BAM! If all fails, you still have accidental coverage.

Good luck and keep us updated.

    Hi, thanks for you're response.

Well, I waited about 20 min and used "duster" to spray any drops out and wiped it clean. It just "splashed" on my keyboard and palm rest; luckily the whole cup did not tip over on it, just a splash.

But it has never happened so I was worried.

Booted it up and running battlefield Beta 3 right now and all is well. I don't see any errors, and I think I got lucky it was a splash and it all went on the keyboard, which I sucked up right away.

I do have the 2 year accidental luckily and I actually would rather have it fail and just let them fix it then to open it myself.

    thanks for the help though!

If you still had your Accidental Complete Cover which usually cover within the first year of the warranty on, then Call Dell, They will come to replace one for you for free.

The most important thing to remember is the following equation:
Liquid + electricity = Laptop Death

Let it sit and dry for a day, use a blow dryer if you think it could help.
And look on the bright side, now you have a cool laptop with fancy lights AND that nice java smell!
    ;)
