    Hi,

I was routinely using my M14x when my left hinge cracked a few weeks ago. The laptop would still open and close but not without it obviously being out of line.

I sent it into Dell for warranty support, though I only have basic. They are now trying to charge me $378 to replace both the hinge and the LCD, as they say the LCD is now damaged. And this is the case even though I never had a problem with the LCD when I sent it in. I've escalated with Dell support as it seems that this hinge issue has been a problem. I'd appreciate any advice on whether this is a fight I can win, if it makes sense to just pay them for the replacement and/or I have any other options than paying them the $378?

    Thanks,
    Darren

If you're ultimately going to send it to dell to repair your issue, call them again and plea your case. It's still going to cost you some money, but probably less than you were originally quoted for the hinge and LCD screen.

If you're up for the task to replace it yourself, then find the part on ebay. Once it arrives, look up a youtube video on disassemble/assembly for it. You'll be back in business in no-time.

Best of luck & let us know how it goes...
